Abia State Ministry of Information has declared its readiness to work with media aids and stakeholders to tackle rumour mongering in the state.

Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, who disclosed this in a meeting with all media aides to the seventeen (17) local government chairmen and information officers, held in Umuahia lamented that rumour mongering had been weaponised by some people to misinform Abia people.

Chief Okiyi Kalu charged all media aides to discharge their duties and also douse tension created by rumour mongers. He described their work as very vital especially at the grassroots.

The information boss called for cooperation between media aides and information officers in promoting activities of government at the grassroots. He advised them to focus on the activities of the local government chairmen and the governor and to avoid negative posts on the social media.
