Paxful Completes Second School in Rwanda #BuiltWithBitcoin

Paxful, one of the biggest peer-to-peer (P2P) bitcoin marketplaces in the world, is once again demonstrating how the cryptocurrency community can contribute to good causes around the world. The firm has made known the second school it has helped to finance in Rwanda has now been completed.

This project was funded entirely through cryptocurrency donations as a part of Paxful’s #BuiltWithBitcoin initiative, with over $100,000 raised in BTC, BCH, ETH, LTC and DASH to assist construction. It is said to be the first primary school in the area that caters to kids between the ages of 6 to 15. The facility contains six classrooms, a cafeteria, bathroom stalls, solar panels and a 35,000-liter water well system. It was achieved in partnership with the Zam Zam Water charity and will employ six full-time teachers.

Paxful, which currently reported that its monthly bitcoin volume in Africa has reached about $65 million, launched the #BuiltWithBitcoin program last year. It started by donating $50,000 in bitcoin to build its first nursery school in Rwanda, with plans to fund and build 100 schools across Africa. Earlier this year, the firm also granted academic scholarships to a couple of female Afghan refugees in the U.S.

Steady Rise in Small Businesses Accepting Bitcoin Payments in Kenya

Kenyan health services provider Health Land Spa has begun taking BTC and other cryptocurrencies as a medium of payment with a view to increasing accountability and averting losses. Across East Africa, cryptocurrency acceptance is on the rise, with at least two restaurants in Uganda and Kenya selling food for virtual currencies.

Tony Mwongera, founder of Nairobi-based Health Land Spa, told Kenyan news site Bitcoinke that he resorted to BTC to plug revenue loss. “There was so much theft in my business. So I decided, why don’t I use a technology which is safe and secure, and I chose to accept bitcoin [core] as a mode of payment.”

With the introduction of cryptocurrencies, Health Land Spa customers will now be footing the bill for massages, pedicures and other health and beauty treatment services from their digital wallets. The firm, which also accepts dash, is looking to add more cryptocurrencies in the coming months.

Mwongera is not the first Kenyan service provider to make a bitcoin move. Boxlight Electronics, a Kenyan firm that distributes a range of electrical gadgets including television sets and home theaters, now accepts payment in bitcoin core and bitcoin cash.

This London Taxi Driver Sells Cryptocurrency to Passengers

If you hail a taxi in downtown London, you could wind up paying for more than just your fare. Pseudonymous cab driver Dave Jenkins is popular as the Crypto Cabbie because as he drives passengers around London he provides the ability to buy BTC.

There’s a taxi driver in London who will not only give you a ride, but probably also ask you if you’re interested in buying BTC. Dave Jenkins travels with a device that enables people to purchase bitcoins. As he explained in a recent interview, the hardware is manufactured by a firm called Fastbitcoins, and allows the Crypto Cabbie to sell BTC for cash before furnishing the buyer with a receipt. Essentially, the service is a voucher system that can be redeemed for BTC after the purchase at certain locations.

Jenkins says dealing with him is much easier for customers than signing up for an exchange or using a crypto ATM in London that might need KYC identification. The Crypto Cabbie reckons he’s the first taxi driver to offer cryptocurrency purchases. “You know, you just turn up, get in the cab, hand the cash over and you’ve got your bitcoin and away you go,” Jenkins explained during his interview. The Crypto Cabbie is good friends with Danny Brewster, the creator of the U.K.-based Fastbitcoins point-of-sale (PoS) terminal firm.

According to Brewster, he sells the crypto-enabled PoS devices to retail stores and businesses worldwide and is certain of developing his business during the crypto bear market, believing it makes his firm stronger. His buddy Jenkins has been accepting BTC for taxi rides since 2017 and doesn’t seem concerned by its drop in value. The Crypto Cabbie explained.

Why Colombia Has Become a Hotspot for Bitcoin ATMs

American ATM network Athena Bitcoin is continuing its belligerent expansion in Latin America, with now 17 ATMs in five cities in Colombia. The firm is sure the ATMs are a good investment.

The machines, which support bitcoin (BTC), bitcoin cash (BCH), litecoin (LTC) and Ethereum (ETH), have sprouted up in Colombia’s five biggest cities. The firm plans to also open one in the border town of Cucuta, a hotspot for the thousands of Venezuelans now crossing into the country every day.

Athena also has opened one ATM in Argentina, one in Mexico and another in Chile. Colombia has seen the largest investment because people are more open to cryptos here – and in neighboring Venezuela – than in other Latin American nations, according to the firm.

Athena’s ATMs are designed to allow users to buy cryptocurrency without a bank account, debit card or credit card. There are close to 70 scattered across the US and the firm promises people can buy cryptocurrency from the machines as small as 90 seconds with an appropriate crypto wallet on their smartphone.

South Korean Business School Launches Crypto MBA Program

A bigger business school in South Korea is now offering a master’s degree in cryptocurrency. Crypto MBA is an annual program that covers topics such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, smart contracts, crypto funds, Dapp planning, game theory, and how to write persuasive whitepapers. Meanwhile, the government is working on follow-up crypto regulations.

Seoul School of Integrated Sciences and Technologies, often known as Assist, has made known on Friday that it is now offering a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree program dedicated to cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. The new course is “a master’s degree program in blockchain, cryptoeconomics and token economy courses from technological, cryptoeconomic and business strategic perspectives,” the school explained.

Report: India Evaluating Cryptocurrency Legalization Under Strong Regulation

The committee charged with providing approval for the regulatory framework surrounding cryptocurrencies in India is reportedly evaluating the legalization of the asset class under strong regulation. According to a current report, “There is a general consensus that cryptocurrency cannot be dismissed as completely illegal.”

The banking ban imposed by the RBI has influenced cryptocurrency trading behaviors in India. Exchange-escrowed peer-to-peer (P2P) trading volumes have reportedly soared in the months following the decision, signifying that the Indian people’s desire to use and hold cryptocurrencies has not been completely dampened by the ongoing regulatory uncertainty.

Even though the government of India has yet to make known a formal stance on the matter, the Indian crypto community remains optimistic that the government will end up lifting the ban and will formulate positive regulations in the upcoming months. The next meeting of the committee is scheduled for January 2019.

190 Companies Seek to Enter Japanese Cryptocurrency Market

In an exclusive interview with news.Bitcoin.com, Japan’s top financial regulator has confirmed on Wednesday the number of firms recently wanting to enter the Japanese cryptocurrency market. Meanwhile, various existing crypto exchanges in the country are undergoing changes.

While the FSA did not discuss particular applications, some firms have made announcements themselves regarding their plans to start crypto-related businesses. Among them are Line Corp., Yahoo! Japan, Money Forward Inc., Drecom Co. Ltd., Yamane Medical Corp., Adways Inc., Avex Inc., Daiwa Securities Group, Samurai & J Partners, Appbank Inc., I-Freek Mobile Inc., Forside Co. Ltd., and Fasteps Co. Ltd.

There are recently 16 registered crypto exchanges in Japan. Under the revised Payment Services Act, crypto operators must register with the FSA. Japan also has three deemed dealers, which are firms that have been allowed to operate while their applications are being reviewed by the regulator. They are Coincheck, Lastroots, and Everybody’s Bitcoin.
