To register with coren, I must first be a cooperate member of Nse,to become a member you must;

1. Have 5 years or more practical engineering experience
2. Do and submit 3 volumes of technical report about your experience and other engineering requirements needed
3.techincal presentation and defense of report
4.written exam and computer test
5.write an exam essay on a given topic in the exam hall
6.pass all stated above.

Then take your nse certificate to coren for approval and registration and collect number and ya seal for pp.

Next step is job provision which I believe would come if quackery is combated, by the time all engineering firms (both big and small scale) are mandated to have qualified engineers not craft men etc, for them to be registered, God willing we would all see the massive demand and lucrativeness of this noble profession. Mmmm. Several professional courses requires one to spend 5 years in school, Several professional courses require some form of tutelage for years and exams before being registered.
several professional courses are just as indispensable as engineering.

Soon all of them will clamour for preferences too and the seeds of acrimonious fights will start. Thanks to the former head of the civil service of the Federation who was an engineer, now a lawyer who finds himself there will try to do same for lawyers, an architect for architects and so on. The government always sets traps for itself.

What about those that taught them, to what extent has the Government taken care of them?

They spend six years in school while engineers spend five. Remember that there's no grade level 11, so the doctors are two steps ahead because of six years and one year compulsory housemanship
