Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration shared N150 billion two weeks to the 2015 poll.

Osinbajo accused Jonathan of frittering billions of naira that should have been spent on projects.

Admitting that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari had not completely dealt with corruption in the country, he said it had demonstrated enough political will to reverse the situation.

Osinbajo disclosed this at the old banquet hall of the presidential villa, Abuja during the 7th presidential quarterly business forum for private sector stakeholders.

He said “In one single transaction a few weeks to the the 2015 elections, sums of a N100billion and $295million were just frittered away by a few.

“When you consider that in 2014 as the minister of finance has said that oil price was an average of $110 a barrel and only N99 billion was spent on power, works and housing and when we talk about the economy we talk as if these are normal by every standard.

“Nobody should talk about the economy when you have this kind of huge leakages and huge corruption. Corruption that completely makes nonsense of even what you are allocating to capital projects.

“We saw from the presentation of minister of finance that N14 billion was spent on agriculture in 2014, transportation N15 billion, so the total spent on infrastructure in those three years were N153 billion and in two weeks before the elections N150 billion was essentially shared.

“So, if your total infrastructure spending is N150 billion and you can share N153 billion, that is completely incredible. That sort of thing doesn’t happen anywhere else in the world. And when we are talking about the economy, we must simply understand that that is the problem.

“I must ask again what was wrong with the Nigerian economy and what do we need to do to correct the flaws. There are several issues many of which have already been articulated but I want to talk about what I think is the biggest problem which for some reason we hardly talk about when discussing our national economy.

“This is grand corruption in the public finance space. Sometimes the way we talk about the Nigerian economy it does appear as if it is the economy of say Norway or somewhere where all things are equal. Even when we refer to what has taken place in our economy, we almost sound as if this is in every sense a very normal business environment, a very normal public finance environment but that is not the case.

“I do not think that any consideration about our economy development can be properly and honestly done without fully analysing corruption, especially grand corruption in the public finance space.

“You see that despite record high levels of oil prices, very little was invested in infrastructure and a record level of leakages were recorded in the past few years.

“This is the fundamental issue in our economy. Corruption affects everything. It affects even judgement as to what sort of infrastructure to put in place or whether infrastructure will ever be complete. It is so fundamental that we can’t even think of our economy without thinking of what to do about it.

“Sometimes when we talk about our economy, we talk about the fact that we have relied on single commodity and that is one of the reasons why we are where we are. Yes, that’s quite true but the fact is that proceeds from that single commodity was regularly hijacked consistently by a few. That is really the problem. If we had spent the proceeds from that single commodity the way we ought to, we won’t be where we are today.”

Meanwhile this midget VP of a man never told Nigerians of what his regime have done to all the highly scandalous corruption stench oozing from the presidency to the least as far as the all encompassing corruption APC government. undecided
So much buck passing & moral burden for this useless hypocritical government. angry

Osumbande trying very hard to please his cabal masters. This is very amusing. I guess GEJ is still giving them nightmares 3.5 years out of power.
Buhari's rudderless and directionless govt has absolutely NOTHING to show that's why they keep mentioning GEJ. They have nothing other than failure upon failure, breaking negative records left right and center from recession, fulani herders terrorist killings, overtaking India's poverty index, increase in hunger, to IGP disobeying the president for the first time in the history of Nigeria. grin

When a failed govt know that they failed woefully, they begin to grab at straws to remain relevant.
If they like let them release another story tomorrow that GEJ released N1 trillion a day to election to buy houses in London, one thing they can never change is that GEJ's govt will always be miles ahead of them! cool

By the way, how does it feel to be the vice of a brainless figurehead president? grin

Both the rabid and clueless thief called Jonathan, and the hypocritical and useless dullard called Buhari, are a stain to this nation.

Both of them are enemies of the state.

Those are astronomous figures.

The question is: what is the govt doing to recover and prosecute these alleged looters? I assume if the sum has been traced then the recipients are readily known? Were these sums appropriated for expenses? Have the expenses been audited for financial compliance? Has the govt even tightened her claims?

We have to be wary of claims that have not been cross interrogated in court. We are all aware how the EFCC has withdrawn from prosecutory cases they instituted or even outrightly admitted their erroneous claims of missing money.

If money has been frittered, let it be recovered and the culprits prosecuted.

Honestly Osibande is an ordinary commissioner bxos were it not so this professor of law would would ve known that u can't continue this blame game for ever particularly as elections re coming up next year Bt wat do we have?a situation where a whole professor of law reiterates whatsoever his masters up north have said or want him to say ,he has no discretion or mind of his own.....

Selective amnesia is the bane of this APC led government, once u become a member of APC then automatically ur previous sins re forgiven or hardly remembered hence forth e.g Abacha's loot is hardly mentioned by the APC despite the fact that their principal said Abacha wasn't corrupt when the total amount of loot recovered so far says the obverse, bt it's not worthy of mention because their principal served as the PTF chairman in that administration and since he is Mr.Integrity he would be hurting his credentials as a man of impeccable character if he said sth contrary to what he said about Abacha,it's just self preservation at play here..(...) Jonathan's case is so so glued to the lips of every APC faithful as being the inventor of corruption in Nigeria while also neglecting the fact their principal was also indicted in the past of looting and stashing some money in the then Midland Banks...Let them continue ,8 years is not eternity this they re forgetting and by the time they leave a thorough dig would be made into their books and I believe that corruption of humongous proportions would be unearthed..

Later one imbe cile will come arguing with me that this Osinbajo is not shallow and useless.
What is the use of this information to us now at this point in time!
I bet anyone that if the signals towards the 2019 elections shows that PMB will likely lose, this government would empty the excess crude oil account,NNPC account,NPA,Nimasa and even ministry of health account to ensure Buhari doesn't lose.

Yes Jonathan withdrew I billion dollars which was equivalent to about 150 billion Naira CNN rate then under the auspices of fighting Boko Haram and Buhari has also done same by fictitiously withdrawing 1 billion dollars too which is equivalent to over 300 billion Buhari naira also to fight Boko Haram...So Mr vice president what exactly is ur point ?
Re: Jonathan Shared N150bn Two Weeks To 2015 Election – Osinbajo by mekaboy(m): 12:57am On Mar 20, 2018
A minister in your government awarded a website contract of 78 million naira during GEJ regime. Transparency international knew all that and Still your government higher in corruption than GEJ.

If GEJ stole in time of abundance, what will u call this administration that steals in time of scarcity?

An administration that someone in the presidency, will still look at the poor internally displaced people and Still take money meant for them.

You are not just corrupt but wicked.
