I really don't get your point. Are you saying Awolowo shouldn't have contested for the western region premiership position because Zik was more popular? Did Zik's party win the majority of seats in the western region Parliament to enable him become premier? What the fvck is tribalism in a Yoruba man asking Yoruba people to vote for him?

Please ask them ooo.

These Igbo people are a special breed of delusional entitled brats.

When you allow them have their way, they boast that you were stupid or lazy to have allowed them to dominate in your own region.

Awolowo that was not stupid or lazy, and campaigned for his own seat and party in his own region, is a tribalist for not allowing Azikiwe ascend the throne of his Igbo forefathers that they kept in Ibadan.

There is nothing wrong with asking yorubas to vote for you on your own merit.

Asking them to vote for you because you are Yoruba and the other is not ,is called tribalism.

Zik never played such politics. That is why he is the zik of Africa, while the other is a known ethnic champion.

Yet we were already a politically conscious and educated society despite the colonialism.

A society that only knew there were some Igbo bushmen somewhere in the East, while some were working as domestic servants to the British in Yorubaland.

This was the same time that university educated Yoruba men were debating with the British colonialists on the welfare of their people and region, and contributing to the growth of their region.

Your own people were in the evil forest fighting wrestling while naked girls were dancing to their delight.

North, South have said Awolowo brought tribalism into our politics but you will quickly post your false stories from Afonja writers to counter it. Trump told his state to vote for him because he was capable and not because he is from the same state with them. #cursedAwolowo...

Awolowo nor any Yoruba politician do not owe any Igboman explanations for their political campaign among their own people.

Azikiwe himself campaigned in the East after he finally found his village. He did not go there to campaign as a Yoruba man, same way Awolowo is expected to campaign as A Yoruba man to his own people, just as Ahmadu Bello campaigned to his own Northerners too.

Just admit that Azikiwe was fighting a lost cause, and only had the hope that his Yoruba party members would also win their own seats in Parliament to score a majority.
If it were a presidential system, I assure you that Azikiwe would only score as much votes as Awolowo would have scored in the North, and Ahmadu Bello would have scored in the East.

What is tribalism is you Igbonizing federal jobs and appointment. And recruiting into federal establishments with the aim to flood it with Igbos. You enjoyed it while it lasted.

While it lasted!

I am Igbo but Wikipedia is your friend
Even Yabatech is older than UNN
Now people will say Yabatech is not a University
Check out when University of Ibadan was founded before we start making misinformed statements

Again another hateful and bitter Igboman who cannot forget Awolowo because he dared to become premier in his own Western region, democratically.

Is it your region?

Do we concern ourselves with the politics of your then Eastern region?

Or did Azikiwe not run back to the East and ensured he substituted another parliamentarian to obtain an Eastern seat, and from there ensured he usurped the premiership of the Efik Eyo Ita?

So now the North is your confirmation, yet when same North said they would only employ Northerners into the regional jobs, your people wailed hopelessly about the policies of that regional government that was considering the welfare of its own citizens?

The problem of the Igbo is that you want to be everywhere and you want to dictate everywhere.

When you are not allowed, you condemn. When you are allowed, you boast and gloat.

And mind you, Trump was one of those who aimlessly rejected Obama because he is black, and continued to propagate the false conspiracy that he was born in Kenya and not America.

While Awolowo campaigned on a platform that promised free education. He won and he implemented it, but guess who continue till today to rubbish such a scheme that benefited all those resident in the West?
Igbos like you.

UNN was founded in 1955 which was still pre-independence
But it was formally opened on 7th October 1960,just 6 days after independence
So what's your point?

I'm proudly Igbo but several higher institutions(not universities) have been formed in the West before UNN
See an earlier thread on Nairaland that mentions a Federal Surveying school in Oyo that was founded in 1908

You see how idiotic you are?

UNN was the first Nigerian university, established in 1955 and formally opened in 1960.

UI was established as a COLLEGE of the University of London and became an independent university with powers to award its own degrees in 1962. UNN already produced 2 sets of its own graduates before UI produced its first.

You still never get sense!!
UNN can never be the first Nigerian university if you like mention UI as University College London's daycare.

UI started in Yaba Lagos as Nigeria's first tertiary institution in 1932 before moving to Ibadan to become University College Ibadan in 1948.

As UNN take graduate first, I suppose they also had the first VC in Nigeria.... Anuohia!

Take note University of London and University College London are both different.

It is good that Azikiwe lived to see the result of his shortsighted politics in the life of his people.

It is also good that he also saw that other regions could also populate themselves in federal government jobs and positions like he was doing with his clansmen and termed as meritocracy during the independence government.

i thought they said azikiwe is just a ceremonial president?
How come he has Alot of hidden powers to execute his favourable decisions.

I went through the Wikipedia page for UNN.

The writer went to a great length to emphasize that the University is the first indigenous and autonomous one in Nigeria blah blah blah.

Nothing much to read about the ongoing research efforts in the school.....

What is the rank of the school in Nigeria today?

At least, UI is still topping in various rankings.

I laff for my people.
