Nigeria is a deteriorating country and with a pessimistic point of view, many people believe it has to get much much worse before it can get better. We already have bad presidents, either very corrupt and moderately incompetent or moderately corrupt and very incompetent. This has plunged Nigeria into the deepest depths of suffering for many years. The logical next step is for the people to stand together and elect someone competently different but the names being churned out are no different from the former rotten bunch. This has proven that Nigeria and Nigerians have an affinity for the illogical.

Going by that point of view, we have had many bad presidents and many bad governors. It is only logical that we should have many bad senators as well. Note that logic in this instance means illogic as this logic applies to Nigeria.

Few weeks ago, the long suspected jumbo pay of senators was finally revealed: #750,000 per month as basic salary and #13.5 million per month as running cost allowance. This is in addition to a constituency largesse of #200 million per year. This revelation enlightened Nigerians as to why many governors run to the senate after their tenure. This enlightened Nigerians why there has been no progress in the national assembly as it is filled with only money-grabbing kleptomaniacs.

The next logical step was for Nigerians to take to the streets in uproar and NLC to declare strike until this outrageous amount is drastically reduced. But remember that logic does not apply when it comes to Nigerians, so the news has quietly died down with nothing done.

Today it was revealed that many soon to be ex governors are going to run for senatorial positions. As a sitting governor, becoming a senator is relatively easy because it involves sectoral voting and sectoral rigging. No amount of nationwide and statewide outrage can stop a sitting governor from garnering votes from his relatively small and gullible senatorial zone. This means that many sitting governors are going to become senators without hindrance. This also means more suffering for Nigerians and further decomposition of the country.

The good news is that when half of the senate is made up of ex governors and poverty has risen to an even astronomical high, Nigerians will finally realize there is no bad APC or bad PDP and there is no bad igbo, yoruba or hausa. There are only bad citizens who allowed bad individuals take over our beloved country by doing nothing.
