President Buhari is visiting Lagos tomorrow March 29, 2018 and Lagos State Government has decleared it work free. Why at this age, we still imbibe colonial mentality. Prseident will mostly use chopper to his destinations; why blocking roads and causing loss of revenue to us as many offices will be shut down. We all really need to change our thinking. God bless Nigeria

Well, the western world has better transportation networks, Nigeria is still struggling with building its own. So I think it was a good decision to declare Thursday a public holiday, and reduce the unnecessary hardship that the President's arrival will cause to Lagosians.

Must you guys wail over everything? Gosh. Is not like LASG said nobody shouldn't come out on Thursday, the state gov't only said that some strategic roads will be closed for some hours so as to enable free flow of traffic.

Even in newyork(the economic hub of the world), some roads are closed anytime the US president want to visit the state. Or is lagos's economy bigger than that of NY?

Lagos is overcrowded while NY isn't. And that's why work free day has to be declared in lagos just to save the masses from staying in traffics for several hours. And besides the work free day doesn't even applies to everybody. Some people will still to their various offices on that day.

Some years back, a sitting president visited Lagos and because every security personnel was focused on that event, bank robbers hit some banks in Lekki and a lot of people died.

The traffic caused by closed roads prevented first responders from getting to the injured and they died too.

Please if Thursday is work free, a lot of people will be home meaning less traffic and less hassles.

It is not idle but it is a way to learn from the past and not repeat it

Please check NY population; even more choke than Lagos and reason they have best rail service than many States of America. I thought we have changed from closing roads.....

You must be kidding yourself. NY more choked up than lagos? How? Do you even understand what overpopulation means? Beijing have more population than lagos but nobody will classify Beijing as a chocked up province.

Nothing is pausing anywhere.

I don't think LASG is stopping people from carrying out their daily activities; the state released a traffic schedule this morning, highlighting areas that will be affected and plans that have been put in place to ensure minimum disruption in commerce. If they are expecting the whole state to shut down, they won't have layed down those plans.

The public holiday was probably simply to ensure that public workers and students who would ordinarily have to ply the roads on their way to/from work no longer have need to do so, unless for their own personnal activities. I am sure most private organizations in the state will still operate on that day. The wharf, airport, banks, malls, markets etc will be very much open for business. So the claim that the state will ground to a halt for 24 hours is erroneous.

Exams can be postponed and handled later, but tell me, how do you handle people getting robbed or dying in traffick?, who knows how many people may die simply because ambulances cannot jump traffick, those people will not resurrect because somebody is insisting on a "24 hours economy" in the face of a monumental gridlock. The LASG had to do something to reduce the traffick one way or another, and declaring a public holiday is certainly not a bad idea.

As for how people will get to Eko Hotel and co, the state government has already addressed that issue earlier, the roads will only be closed for a while, after the president's convoy passes through, they would then be immediately reopened.
