We are not where we want to be in rice production but we are making progress in that line. Look at Kebbi state, Anambra State and Sokoto state where rice cultivation has been optimized. The jobs created, the wealth distributed, the FOREX we are saving.

The economy will be better for it. If you want to crash the price of cars today, simply open your borders, remove duties and watch the price fall but what happens to people like Innoson? Prices of commodies can be cheap but it does the economy no good
Just as a poster said earlier, most of Reno's fans are economic illiterates so don't bother educating them because they'll still remain adamant

Why are you buharists too blind to see the truth and dumb to speak the truth?

This evil government is in conflict with the truth and not with Jonathan.

Say or write something that you can defend. With the reduction of oil price which results in the shortfall of dollars, what do you think will happen to the price of imported goods? You cannot blame Buhari for the fall in oil price. Those who sold oil at $100 a barrel, depleted the foreign reserve, borrowed to pay salary, owed Federal contractors for years and with no tangible infrastructure ought to cover their face in shame.

Nobody is blaming Buhari for the fall in oil prices , if you think oil price is responsible for the total economic degeneration of Nigeria under Buhari how come the percentage of oil price loss is far less than the percentage of inflation or Forex value loss of the Naira ... It's still beat my imagination how someone thinks a slow brained characters with slurred speech like Buhari can make any difference... let's stop even blaming price of oil because 45-50 dollars is the actual value of oil and 100 dollars per barrel had always been a fluke value of oil and was never expected to stay that way forever so Buhari should keep quiet ..How many times in world history has a barrelnof fuel gone above 70 dollars . Nuharinmet oil at its actual price and the price at which most economic benchmark and predictions are based on so what's where is the low oil price set

Rice was 8,000 at what price? No job was created for local farmers and you were using FOREX you didnt have to make countries like Thailand richer.

With more rice farmers growing the product and more mills, the price can only come down but the money stays in Nigeria and create Nigerian jobs.

Reno and his silly nuggets

Your level of ignorance is unlimited. A simple Google search would help you on the food import bills before Jonathan took over and as at when he handed over. Also the commissioning of the biggest rice mill in Africa located, Adamawa, by name Olams rice mills. And to think that you are a mod disgracing yourself like this is a big shame.

Your blame game and demonizing Buhari can't work here, let me ask you this question, a man earns 150k a month and can conveniently save 50k and use up the rest for the upkeep of his family, what do you think would happen to him when the company he works with invites him and gave him two options, either for him to be paid off or they can keep him but his salary would now be 30k. What do you think he would do if he decides to take the second option? Won't he cut back on some expenses and of course his family would suffer too? Don't you think that was what Nigeria went through from oil sale of over $100 per barrel to a point it sold around $30 per barrel? What would you have done differently if you were Buhari, I guess you'll definitely deplete our foreign reserve in order to keep the naira low and imports cheap too so as to make Nigerians happy and when you are done depleting it and no dollar to import, what do you do next? I guess you're start printing dollars.

I think what Reno is really talking about is purchasing power/adjusted for inflation indices.

in that context, GEJ is heads & shoulders above pmb whose idea of a high standard of living is dependent on the ability of Nigerians to bear more suffering.

under GEJ, there was a higher real income because despite the increase in prices of goods compared to pre-1999, most ordinary Nigerians could actually afford the higher prices.

to put it in context, when a bag of cement was around N600 between 1994-1999, very few Nigerians could afford to build standard homes because few Nigerians could afford cement at such prices.

now, between 2008 & 2014 when cement fluctuated be N1,200-N2,800, a higher number of Nigerians could afford to build standard homes despite the higher prices.

you had more Nigerians buying cars & the standard of living improved greatly & the effect was general, except up north where the common folks seem to be allergic to good life.

today, price of goods have increased but no commensurate increases in PP of individual households (except the saints of pmb).

while there are other causalities imbedded in the standard of living analysis, fact remains that Nigerians are generally poorer today, economically & politically, then they were 3 years ago...

Nigeria still import rice every single day from January to December.

I'm really disappointed that u are trying to justify the fact that rice rose to 25k to 30k under Buhari.

You might want to ask what Lake rice is.

There a whole lot of local brands out there

Lake rice is part of APC's propaganda. They said it is a joint rice production venture between Lagos and Kebbi...we never saw the farms but saw printed bags having LAKE rice insignia. Rice seized by customs and rebagged. We are not dumb as APC thinks.

If Nigeria had continued to spend and spend and spend without saving, we will have ended up like Venezuela annot be able to buy anything including toilet paper.

The same countries that the world Bank said were in the green when they were yabbing us (Angola and Egypt) are going through poo right now. Why did we do? Stop spending anyhow in imports.

Keep imports to the minimal because we can not afford it. Anyone can crash prices with foreign goods, it is too easy but can you sustain it?
what's the difference between Nigeria and Venezuela?
Both countries are oil rich yet their citizens suffer.

Lake rice only exists during elections and/or strategic political rallies/timings . There are no lake rice in any market. If you think otherwise, do as he said, show us a picture proof.

Reno Omokri via his twitter handle remembered the vice president, Prof Yemi Osinbajo that for the five years Former President Goodluck Jonathan destroyed Nigeria, A 50kg bag of rice was sold for 8,000 Naira.

Remember that for the 5 years Jonathan ‘destroyed’ Nigeria
50kg bag of rice was ₦8000
Fuel was ₦87
$1 was ₦150 (₦199 in 2015)
Lagos-Abuja air fare was ₦10,000
A bottle of Coke was ₦60
A tin of Peak milk was ₦80
₦18,000 minimum wage was equal to $120

https://mobile.twitter.com/renoomokri/status/979465749445083136

I believe omokri knows the truth. Oil windfall was enough to pay for massive imports whish is not the same any more. Omokri would had made a point if his government ensured the listed items were produced locally and sold at that price .

We are not seeing PDP as option.
