The International coordinator of a global humanitarian organization in Nigeria, Voice of Divine Truth International Outreach, Mr. Azemobor Gregory, also known as ‘apostle of humanity’ has advised the church to shun elaborate celebrations at Easter and focus rather on helping the needy . This advice is against the backdrop of the enormous resources squandered on the rituals and traditions of celebrating Easter while conspicuously omitting the essence that Easter symbolizes with the death of Christ.

Speaking during a Free Food Kitchen event, organized by their organization- Voice of Divine Truth International, which held at Saint Leo Catholic Church, Ikeja, Mr. Azemobor said “, “The Easter Free Food Kitchen tagged ‘Operation Feed the Poor’ was put together to inspire individuals and organizations to urgently rise to the challenge of eradicating global hunger. Many people in the world are hungry not just for food but for love. It’s untenable that in the midst of plenty some 769 million people in the world are hungry. Many children are malnourished and many are dying of starvation. The time has come for us to rise up to our shared humanity BY SHOWING LOVE AND COMPASSION TO ONE ANOTHER , especially the less privilege in the society- Indigent kids, destitute, widows, beggars, the disable, street children, the elderly etc . The major goal of this exercise is to spearhead a social advocacy that will inspire individuals and the society to develop a culture of love and care for one another especially the poor amongst us”

“For many of us that are Christians, there is no better way to celebrate Easter than to use the occasion to show love and compassion towards the needy, as this is the core message that the supreme sacrifice of the Death and Resurrection of Christ epitomizes. I therefore urge the Church to use this auspicious event to demonstrate love in practical terms by reaching out to the poor and the needy as this was the heart cry of Christ while He was on earth”

Speaking further, Azemobor also admonished individuals to cultivate charitable lifestyle as the key to a life of fulfillment, “ let me also use this opportunity to encourage each and every one of us to develop a lifestyle of giving as this is the essence of our lives. Somebody says you make a living by what you get but you make life by what you give. This fundamental principle of life ought to guide our daily relationship with one another. We should play down on materialism and primitive accumulation. Let us endeavor to serve others as this is the core purpose of our existence”

“The bigger vision of our organization is to build a Charity City, where one of the facilities would be a Free Food Kitchen that would feed 100,000 poor people on daily basis. We shall also operate a food bank to receive food donations from generous individuals and corporate organizations. Raw food items donated will be distributed free to the poor
“Let me specially appeal to corporate organization to support these projects, especially those manufacturing food items. This is a sponsorship that impacts directly on the welfare of the poor. Let us do this together. Individuals are also urged to support the projects by donating food and clothing items” Azemobor added
The Easter Free Food Kitchen which took place on Saturday, 24th of March 2018, attracted over 2000 indigent persons, who were excited to receive free food and clothing items.

Notable organizations that donated food items to support the event includes: Animal Care Services Ltd ( producers of Funtuna Water, Funtuna Eggs) Koowo Water, UAC Foods and Pages Sachet Waters
A UK based foremost humanitarian organization- Thy Helper Organization also donated food items to support the initaitive and their Nigeria representatives were on ground to render volunteer services at the event. A social media Initiative that promotes and supports good causes- #Socialmediaforgood also made donations to support the event.
The 2018 Easter Free Food Kitchen was indeed a huge success as many less privilege persons that came to the event left with great joy as they ate to their satisfaction and many even took extra food home for their wards.
