duni04: Guy you are talking balderdash! Anybody can do a research about a topic and get it's facts and come to any NASS open hearing and present for members to debate on....the Natasha woman or anybody does not need to be an expert in steel plants to know the basics truths.....its left for 300 representatives of the people to debate and know who is making sense and take resolutions, that is their jobs Is it the scam the minister and some cabals want to perpetuate with the concessioning that should be allowed to go on?! Just know that the NASS is dead serious this time around to get ajaokuta work...and they are all out for the excutivies on this. |

martineverest: Since there is no existing contractual agreement between the firm and the government of Nigeria, the figures of Abacha and Obasanjo era cannot be taken as anything. Even if government is to award a contract for the completion of the ASC, the process will have to be in line with the provisions of the public procurement act and not a direct contract to any Russian firm. It is obvious that the house of reps members are acting out a Russian script based on what they want to benefit or they don't know what they are doing at all. ASC should be sold to a serious private company that can complete the plant and make it work. We should not fall for the scam that some Russians and members of the house of reps are trying to perpetuate. 1 Like 1 Share |

I still remember with nostalgia how my lecturer then in FUTO, Prof. O. O, (Material Science) and Dr. Ifeanyi (Mine Design) they told us that they were amongst those sent to MIT by Nigerian govt to study metallurgy to equip them with the requisite and in depth knowledge required to operate Ajaokuta steel plant in the early eighties. Sadly, they acquired the best knowledge in the one of the world's best institutions, came back to Naija, but the steel plant project could not be actualised till date because of several and multifaceted factors. It's a pity how brains are rotten away. God help Nigeria. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Olalan:absolutely Wong bro, if you listened to barrister Natasha akpoti's presentation at the national assembly, u will see that it's our so called leaders that's a using ajaokuta steel to drain the government. If its given to the original builder (the Russians) to complete their work, Ajaokuta steel would have been working perfectly by now and Nigeria as a whole would have been benefiting from it now. |
Re: Ajaokuta Steel Mill Gets N360bn Excess Crude Account Lifeline by deomelo: 12:46am On Apr 02, 2018 |
Sadly, with that money, Nigeria can build 3 new steel mills with the latest technology, instead of wasting money on the same old RUSSIAN steel mill with old and archaic technology. |

The ASC shoud be of national priority - Nigeria will continue to take the back seat in matters of industrialisation if the plant in not brought on stream. It is misleading for people here to assume that the Soviet company that built it to 95% completion ran aground with the now-defunct union. No! Russia, Georgia, Ukraine et'al all morphed out of the union, just as Tyazhpromexport (TPE) - which exists today as ROSTEC. TPE exists today just like GAZPROM, a multi-spectral, state-run corporation with total assets in excess of $250bn. It is a behemoth, a symbol of Russian industrial might. The Chinese People's government even contracts with Gazprom on projects of gargantuan scale. Listen, Nigeria is just not ready to set the furnaces in Ajaokuta alight - we are more interested in 'da'awah' and evangelism'. God will fix Ajaokuta for us; he fixes everything! The level of stupidity in Nigeria is grandiose! How can a sane people be talking of looters' list, hijab, BBN, agbada, Islamization, tithe etc when the furnace at Ajaokuta ( a complex bigger than all our refineries - dead refineries - combined) lie dead-cold! We are in a league of ours! |

billante:Bros you're the one refusing to use sense and read between the lines. We have a lady with zero background in the industry, setting our steel policy in Nigeria and constantly telling us that a mysterious Russian company should be given money to revive ASC. Our House of Reps then invites this questionable lady with a questionable background to give a presentation to an entire country on a field she has zero expertise in! Our House of Reps then changes our Privitization act and wants to allocate N300billion to this non existent (And nameless) company that built the ASC, based on the fraudulent presentation (laced with lies) given by this fraudstar! When a simple Google search by you or any of those house of reps would have revealed to you that that Russian company only exists in the minds of Natasha and her sponsors? 1 Like |

duni04:You shouldn't be in a haste to pour bitterness on people. I was still putting my post together (though it was inadvertently posted) when you pounced on it. This is Nairaland where people post "Y" only to come drop the complete shit later. I'll restrain myself not to trade banters with you. However, you have to understand that for the fact that a company re-organises or repositions itself, doesn't mean it has erased all traces of its heritage. The company we know as Union bank today was once Colonial Bank, then Barclays bank. Mind you, this same 'Union Bank' has gone through a number of mergers and acquisitions but that doesn't strip it of its heritage. It might further interest you that the Union bank operates in the property, captial market and communications sectors under different franchise. You'll still read anywhere that Union bank was founded in 1917 (and rightly so). Now, most of these Soviet companies didn't die with the union, as each member-state left and continued with whatever assets of the old soviet union that fell under its jurisdiction. Russia and Ukraine were the biggest players on this turf. Most of these companies were state-run (ofcourse due to the socialist leaning), and they went through reorganisation to meet with the emerging realities (most of them taking up new names or becoming subsumed under a new parent body). But in all of these, they still hold tight to their heritage. ROSTEC is the umbrella body for most of all these soviet-era corporations - including the talked about TPE. I brought in Gazprom (a company that has its roots planted in the WW2 era) a classical example of how Russian corporations have morphed over the years. I hope you learn to be less edgy. Would a mention of the Nigerian Army be complete without the mention of the WW2-era Royal West African Frontier Force? |

yom2:That is exactly the goal Buhari was pursuing with the planned Privitization. The house of reps conducted a public hearing and even approved N500million for the Privitization process. Then money changed hands somewhere in between and the NA declares the Minister hostile and one mysterious lady with a mysterious background Is called in to hoodwink Nigerians into believing that one mystical company somewhere in Russia should be given N300billion to revive ASC. The house of reps then, overnight and in record time emoves the ASC from the Privitization list without a public hearing. It's one of the most sophisticated and geniously organised scams ever!!! 1 Like 1 Share |

FemiMaduka:Bros are you insinuating that the FG should give N300billion to a company that only exists in the mind of Ms Natasha and those compromised reps? Everybody keeps saying that TPE still exists but a simple Google search says otherwise. There isn't even a successor company. ROSTEC is a Russian conglomerate that has no involvement in Nigeria at all! So who exactly is collecting this N300billion that Ms Natasha and her boyfriends in the NA want us to share? |

yom2: Again. Foreign firms will do Asset stripping or reduce it to a minor plant in their Asset base. There was a steel gut up to lazy month. The prices were falling. Nigeria needs the plant for more important reasons than commerciality. What I don't understand is why keeping a strategic Asset Nigerian owned is 3 steps back ward. Ajaokuta produces more than just Steel. There are many by products which we are still importing. Many , many , many jobs when the plant is completed. Nigerians are just trying to showoff their intelligence when they thoughtlessly say we should sell the plant. Look at the map of the world. It is cheaper for Nigeria to run than any Global Steel player. |

deomelo:would u keep quiet if u don't know what to say, how can $1bn build 3 steel mills, OK, maybe u meant 3 mills whose combined capacity won't be up to 5% of ajaokuta. This is the same way people expect government to use $100m to build biggest refinery in the world, the same way they were deceived that Nigeria can get 24/7 power within 6 months if we are serious, when a 6000MW power plant takes more than 5 years to build. |
