It all depends on your risk appetite. Buying a stock, you are investing into a single company aka putting all your eggs in one basket. The goods new is, if you did your research very well and the company did well you reap a good return...your profit are also higher, because there are no average down...it is either the company is doing well or not. However, if the company performed badly, you are in for a rough ride and you can loss money faster. Whereas, when you buy a mutual fund, you invest into multiple companies at once, your risks and rewards are diversified...among these basket of companies, some will do well, others will do badly, but the law of averages smooths out the rough edges and you don’t take too much hit when the wind start sailing against you. Also, when you profit, your profits are not very high as you have to average out the non performing stocks in the mutual fund portfolio. If you are investing for long term, retirement; mutual fund are better than stocks...but if your investment is for short term, take the time out and do a reach on a few stocks and diversify on your own. Invest in a company you know, understands their activities and are interested to follow, because the more you know about a company, the better you will understand if they are on the right path vi-as-vi the general trend and their competition. Even when you invest in stocks, you should also gauge your risk appetites...you can look at the volatility chart of the stock and see if you can stomach it. There are some stocks that wouldn’t give you much profit because they don’t go high fast, but they pay dividends; you can settle for these and sell ‘Call Options’ on these stocks to generate incomes every single month. 46 Likes 10 Shares |

If your money runs into millions I suggest you invest in Treasury bills. Shares takes years to get high pay out dividend, most people buy share for their unborn kids as a result. Treasure bill is like a loan to the government that can be paid back at anytime you want, however, duration determines the percentage of profit you make, could be weeks, months, 1 year or more. Crypto currency is a big risk, I'm NOT saying don't invest but venture in other sectors before risking that of Crypto currency. Crypto is highly volatile but massive profit but eh bros, if the volatility catches up with you, your 1 million could be worth 400k or less within minutes and the painful thing about it is you would be watching your money decrease right in your btc wallet and you can't do nothing about it, Ask gurus like Tabbaz, LadyF, Ymodulus and HazzanTazzan. Crypto investment bought me Benz in the dream but when I woke up to volatility na brand new dullop slippers I dey use cruise around town. hahahaha kidding you but Invest wisely. 45 Likes 5 Shares |

y4code: Great question OP. Before I begin, you must understand but investment is not an exact science and that unless you opt for some zero risk investment such as T-bills you may be incurring some level of risk. Your investment strategy maybe defined in terms of various parameters with the most important being risk, returns, discretion, ethics and timeline amongst others. To be continued. 1 Like |

Personally I would not invest in mutual funds but for a novice they are best in terms of risk profile. What I mean is most of them do not lose money in the long run .Whether you make money is another matter though you can easily check the hstorical performance over time. Are you in Nigeria? Didn't know there were Mutual funds in Nigeria. In Nigeria I think government Trasury Bills are an excellent investment. The main risk is inflation/currenydevaluation. but the returns are high: and fairly reliable until Nigeria collapses. If you do not think that will happen then forget about stocks funds and go for Treasury bills. 5 Likes |

The two basically the same, it just depends on who is doing the investing. I would have recommended treasury bills but the rates are falling - not that it's bad, at least still higher than fixed deposit. |

Long term wealth creation, stock. Short term to medium term growth/conservative growth, mutual funds. No one can be truly wealthy without both. If you are still a naive investor, then buy a healthy mutual fund first, then gain informed and not here say knowledge of the stock market. Avoid ponzi schemes, Swiss golden or cryptocurrency. We must all be rich. Sgt PonziHater 5 Likes |

Bros, please go and buy land, forget investment in instrument. Our economy is not matured enough to give you adequate returns. You can get lands in developing areas from 600k up. Within 2 or 3yrs it has doubled. While instrument is still battling with melt down, vaporization and various forms of economic earthquakes. 16 Likes |
