There can never be over-saturation of castor oil in the market because while the demand is high, the supply is too low to meet up with the local demand, let alone international demand.

India is the largest supplier of castor oil, responsible for about 900,000 tons annually while the whole of Africa produce about 12,0000 tons annually.

In Nigeria, only about 2,000 tons are available annually from less than 5 full time castor seed farmers. The largest producer in Africa is Ethiopia, responsible for about 5,000 tons annually.

You see why Nigerian youth need to wake up!

Castor is a seven-year plant. This means that one time investment will last for 7 good years and you harvest 3 times in a year after the first harvest (5 months).

To me this is incredible.

Do you know that livestock animals cannot get close to where it’s planted (the herdsmen already know this). This is as a result of ricin presence in the seed.

You can even plant it around your farm (other crops) for protection against invasion by livestock animals.

The money in castor is even more in processing of its oil.
With little investment in a small machine, a castor oil producer can make millions of naira in one year.

If you plant castor on 1 hectare of land, with a fairly good management culture, you get between 1 to 3 tons every 4 or 5 months for 7 years. And with good management, you can get up to 3 tons from one harvest.
