After installing Wi-Fi are they going to provide them with the tablets and pads to use it with. Or Are they encouraging students and pupils to be using electronic gadgets and high end phones in school. To me this will further act as a distraction to their studies rather than aiding it. Not all students can afford a smart Wi-Fi enabled device and will create bitterness for those who does not have. We all know that nobody can control them when it comes to its usage, hence it will be abused. The government should rather empower the teachers on how best to utilize the internet to aid their teaching ideas by providing them with, digital audio visual equipments, electronic libraries and smart board that is internet enabled. The Wi-Fi should be passworded and known only to the teachers and staff members. This is my take.
your take! Lols are you even an authority to donate a cent here, ok the way the govt abroad are providing gadget for their citizens after giving them a free WLAN.
It is obvious u started using an electronic gadget just last year. Your preposition is full of fallacies, you were only concerned with your self acclaimed demerits of this initiated contract, giving deaf ears to other alternates advantages, the way you think baffles me, you sound too analogue, i have been repudiating what kwesi wiredu said ever since, that Africans are full of unwarranted emotions, but the westerners are full of logical thinking, but you just made me posit to that now,

Lagos State Government has disclosed plans to install free-wifi in
public schools and bus terminals, basically to aide accessibility to
information in the state. Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Hakeem Fahm, who disclosed the plan at ongoing ministerial press briefing held in Ikeja, yesterday, added that the provision would serve as another avenue for residents to enhance social activities.

He said: “We have provided free-wifi in three parks, Ndubuisi Kanu
and Johnson, Jakande Tinubu Parks in Ikeja and Muri-Okunola part
in Victoria Island. Aside this, we will be providing free-wifi in public
schools. “Also, we will be providing additional free-wifi acdcess at
bus terminals and several parks and garden in the state.

“The projects represent a quick win for the state government towards the vision of making Lagos a smart city,” the commissioner added.

According to him, Smart City, a comprehensive programme that
seeks to provide a 24-hour driven economy which would allow
companies to operate in a safe and secure environment thereby
creating more jobs and increase Gross Domestic Product, GDP of
the state.

However, Fahm hinted that no fewer than four million residents
had been captured under ongoing Lagos State Resident
Registration Agency, LASRRA.

The commissioner explained that information “gathered from the
registration is use to embark on planning and allocation of
resources in the state.”

On effort to increase number captured, he stated that efforts had
been strengthened to ensure more residents are registered. The
commissioner assured that plans to deploy additional 10,000 High
Definition (HD) CCTV cameras across the State, to boost security,
transportation and infrastructure in the state.

“The security component will deploy thousands of surveillance
CCTV cameras through the length and breadth of the State. The
transportation component focuses on Intelligent Transport Service
(ITS) and the connectivity component with provision of a metro
fibre network through a major Internet Service Provider (IPS) that
will eventually lead connectivity to various homes, offices and
institutions in the State,” Fahm said.

These, is plural and so is devices and in such cases you use a singular qualifier such as KEEP and not KEEPS.

Its like you saying THEY KEEPS COMING instead of saying THEY KEEP COMING

In English, the X of Y is a popular construction and in this construction, the verb must agree with X. That is the verb MUST agree with the noun or subject that comes before the "of".
Examples: "The number of people IS..."
"The elimination of altruistic tendencies IS..."
"The price points of these devices KEEP..."
"The price point of these devices KEEPS..."

Oga, stop doing porn; it's not natural.

Go and ask a girl out. Getting a girlfriend isn't difficult these days. Many of them need guys just as we need them. If you are not dating, You make things difficult for the girls because they outnumbered we guys.

Finally, avoid porn because it weakens your thing with time...yes, go and ask the addict and they will tell you the adverse effects of porn.

And if u must shag a girl, make sure u use protection.

I can't believe I'm typing all this nonsense after coming back from church now. But then, I have a do it; I have a life to save.

Ciao

I'm surprised people are not seeing the downside of this development which doesn't mean it shouldn't still be done.

But people shouldn't make it sound like it will automatically make the education system better.

It will make a lot of things go bad, if not checkmated.
How many secondary school students would want to stay in class and study, when they can surf the internet, game, chat and a lot more.
Have you considered the crowd at bus terminals because people will cluster there 24/7 for free WiFi which will further enhance criminal activities.
It's a good thing and it should be done, but there should also be a means to checkmate usage and keep people in line.

Free WiFi doesn't mean it cannot be passworded for every single student.

Doesn't mean certain sites would not be barred.

Doesn't mean random monitoring would not be done.

What happened to your brain when composing this piece? No wonder none of our universities could make the best 1000 list worldwide for more than 15 good years. Free WiFi is a norm in public schools and parks abroad. Stop thinking backward pls. People like you faulted introduction of ATM in year 2000, citing insecurity and possibility of stealing money loaded in it. Now, atm is everywhere, adding values to life. Internet access carries a great score when rating a university or higher institutions worldwide. Virtually every student has android-enabled phones, maybe except you. There are cheap ones out there. Students even find it easier to pass Info across to one another via whatsapp than calls. My niece receives his assignment and important Info on campus via whatsapp through the group.

Am surprise you are taking a myopic view on this.

The best and enduring education is not the one impacted on you by your teachers, but the one sought by yourself, driven by an inner desire and hunger.

The internet is a vast avenue capable of feeding that hunger and drive, it will enable students to strive beyond the four walls of their classrooms or the limitations of their teacher’s repetitive and tired lesson notes. They will have opportunities and reseviour of knowledge only limited by their drives and desires. At early age, they will be able to see what their peers globally are doing and capable of, making them more apt to compete in the emerging global market place.

Smartphones are ubiquitous these days even in Nigeria, the price point of these devices keep coming down and they are no longer the exclusive reserve of the rich.

Agreed, social misfits will take advantage of it to further their nefarious activities, but that is not enough to deter it. We don’t stop building highways and bridges because Armed Robbers use them to commit their nefarious activities and as such, these concerns should not deter building the information high way or making it more accessible to more Nigerians.

Knowledge is power and advantage.

Lol

There's a catch. The one in the BRT asked for TOO MANY permissions. Oh, and they made us install an app before we could connect. An app that asked for call history, storage information, location, etc.

Then it made a request to monitor all traffic going in and out of my phone, through mobile network and WiFi. My phone brought up a popup I'd NEVER seen before telling me only to accept this if its an app I trust.

Do I trust the Nigerian Government? Not at all. I uninstalled their rubbish app immediately. Let them keep their WiFi. I'll use my data in peace lol.

lol smart guy, your head dey there... Shebi you no trust Nigerian government! Me I no trust Google! Some people will just accept everything without thinking of the consequences
