Despite Nigeria's law against same-sex marriages and a 14 years jail term for violators of the law, many couples have come out publicly to announce that they are in a same-sex relationship, but it is not common for same-sex couples to request for marriage.
A young lady identified as Shalom Shoremi from Ogun state has been disowned by her family after she approached a federal marriage registry to request approval for a marriage with her partner.
The family severed all ties with her and released a newspaper advert to announce their decision.
