Hello world!
This is a quick profiling section. "The portfolio room". Where programmers can simply drop a word or two to help motivate the next upc_programmer. You never know the next life you may be affecting positively.
Here is the game.
YOU DROP YOUR PROFILE IN THIS ORDER

PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE : Basically python

AREAS OF SPECIALISATION : Web development, data Science ( Machine learning + AI)

ACTIVE CODING EXPERIENCE : about 2 years consistent

AREA OF STUDY : Not computer related

HOW YOU LEARNT TO CODE : Self thought through online materials from scratch until i could get hold of a team.

CURRENT BENEFIT : A good pay, respect( funny but true), freelancing experience., a creative life

WORD OF ENCOURAGEMENT : Programming is fun, I started out barely 2years ago. Trust me that was the first time i heard of my current programming language. I never saw a programmer writing codes before i actually did.

At many times i wanted to quit. My friends thought i was a joke, some felt i couldn't learn from scratch on my own. But then this forum kept the spirit alive. Especially a lady who was really good in java on this forum, explaining how she learnt without a physical Tutor.

I spent sleepless nights, using the cheap night plans to download materials, research became a life style.
I never compared my self with those above me or those behind,i only wanted to learn and beat the previous me each day.

I applied to small companies about 6mnts into the game. But today i have several works deployed online. And i handle a major role with a good pay in a great firm.

Programming has thought me one lesson, Nature pays you when you set your heart to do smt and never to quit. If it was easy every one else would have been doing it.

Hello!
I just concluded Nysc few months. As we know the country is not helping the situation of employment. So I decided to learn and grow in programming languages which I concluded on python. I have started learning from edX and have some available materials on it but I'm very slow in learning because it's self learning. What are your thoughts? I really want to speed up my rate of learning. Please help!

Welcome!
The only way i was able to stay focus was to take short breaks off programming and assured my self the benefit of what i was doing until it paid off.
Don't just code because you felt it is a way out... Trust me you might not enjoy the ride, It may just get boring soon. Most people pay you for quality including firms.
But seek to improve each day and a time will come when your least bid with a firm will be 200k and above(my short term reward trick) and it worked.

Since you are fresh out of service, try to get a small job even if teaching or anything that offers you time for self development (min 3hrs daily, my opinion ) , then code maybe during the evening. That way you will bother less about your learning speed then when you have build up a little, you can start applying to jobs( this is the sure way to learn because you have to meet up clients need/office deadlines) . Take time to develop the basis

In all whatever motivates you, do it

Thanks for the motivation.
I'm improving day by day, almost done with the basics. I'm not in rush to work, I only have few months dedicated for the learning as planned.
My actually aim is data analysis but my research made me realize basics in python is well needed.
Also, I will love to attend an institution where it's been taught and can you recommend the videos and text you used for your learning?

Nice one....
I will try go through a few of my materials and probably update this post. But basically i download materials/videos when i get stuck and Google/stackoverflow always come in handy too.
And yea, python and R are good for data analysis.
There are a lot of thread on this section for data scientist (see threads on ML and AI)

Here
from random import randint
print(' Input your digits in this order x, y, z')
num =input()
three_num=[ num]
print ('The numbers are ' + str(three_num))
for values in three_num:
if int(values[0:1]) <5:
print(' Small, values[1:2], values[ 1:])
else:
print('Large, values[1:2] , values[ 1:])

Nb: There are lots of ways to do this, even with a replace cmd and am currently typing with my mobile. So there are bound to be errors in my code structure

Please Let's Stick to the purpose of the thread so it doesn't become another Python group
