Some Lessons We Can Learn From Saraki’s Ordeal With The Police by Deji7474: 12:48pm On Jun 06, 2018
It is important to highlight that the Senate President was not indicted in the confessions of the armed robbers.

Indicted in the sense that he was not alleged to be a sponsor of the armed robbery operation. With the resources available to him, he does not need the spoils from filthy robbers. But he needs their services to maintain his power and empire in Kwara State. And their confessions alluded to that.

He had bought them cars; given them monetary empowerment and though not directly, even given them weapons.

These facts raise serious questions for any prosecutor. And thus it is not out of place that the Police have asked Senator Saraki to answer pertinent questions involving his relationship with these gang members and criminals.

An important lesson from this event is the fact that Nigeria is building its institutions - a fact that we must glean from the seeming imbroglio.

In past times, a call may have simply been put through to the powers that be to end the investigation because a highly placed individual is involved. Fortunately, this did not happen. If it did, it would have been a dent on the image and independence of the Nigerian Police Force.

Another lesson of note from this drama is the reality that most of the violence being unleashed across the country are indirectly sponsored by our political elite class.

From Rivers, to Oyo, to Ekiti, to Taraba, to Benue - where we are now finding out that the massacre of my Catholic brothers in the sanctuary of a parish, had the tacit blessing of the Governor, as the lead suspect, a certain Tashaku, is his aide - and now to Kwara, where the gruesome killing of 33 innocent Nigerians, including pregnant women, by a criminal gang of robbers under the payroll of the Senate President has just been uncovered.

Our politicians are not just looting us. They are killing us. Literally!
