On Friday April 11, 2014, Pope Francis in remarks while addressing a French child protection group, publicly asked forgiveness for the Church in connection to its widespread child sexual abuse scandals.

Speaking for the Catholic Church as a whole body, including Catholics in general, he emphasized the seriousness of the problem and urged the church to be very strong in responding to that element of their most recent and shameful history. He hinted that he would be willing to implement and impose future punitive measures and sanctions against those in the church would commit such crimes or protect the guilty.

Some experts on abuse issues praised the pope’s comments, while others who have been critical of the Catholic Church over the child sex scandals indicated they would take a “wait and see” position. Most admit that the pope’s moves seem to be sincere and in the right direction.

This is a direct link to an article about Pope Francis’ speech as reported by The Boston Globe: Pope takes responsibility for child abuse scandal

Will the Watchtower ever come to their senses and handle child sexual abuse within congregations as crimes? Will they stop fighting “the superior authorities” and follow the intent and meaning of local and state laws when dealing with cases of suspected or confirmed child endangerment by or against their members?

So far, Watchtower leaders are acting more like the Pharaoh of ancient Egypt than the modern pope. That Pharaoh would not relax his mistreatment of his Hebrew slaves and when confronted by Moses and Aaron absolutely refused to let the Hebrews leave the country. The Bible describes his attitude as “hardening” and “stiffening” even when given the clear evidence that dealing with Moses was the right thing to do.

As the pope sets the example for the rest of Christendom, the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses impose even more ridiculous guidelines to local elders – even often putting them in no-win situations. Many elders want to do the right thing but are restrained by the threat of losing their positions or even their families should they report suspected cases of child or domestic abuse within their congregations.

Where the Watchtower continues to hide behind their “two witness” rules and one-note guidelines that typically do nothing to help victims except to counsel them to “wait on Jehovah,” the pope is taking positive and forceful action.

No matter what actual religious beliefs you might hold, you should be pleased to see someone with such power and authority actually do something to benefit followers. It’s time for the Watchtower’s leaders to follow the pope’s example and make positive and decisive moves to wipe out child and spousal abuse once and for all.

I think Jehovah's witnesses have bigger issues to address at the moment- like learning to sit in their homes and stop disturbing people with unsolicited visits and talks.

And yet! Watchtower is secretly paying millions and for dollars in settlement to victim of child sexy all abuse? How do you explain that?

Anyway! The point is not whether they study that or not, the point is what they do in secret and they handle child sexual abuse. In the recent regional convention, the Watchtower for the first time had to dedicate a talk for child sexual abuse.

Did you know why they had to? Did you ever wonder?

It is because of the heat the 'apostate' are putting them through. Already, they are losing so much court cases, (where they pay millions in settlement to victims) that they cannot even feature one of the child sexual abuse case in they website.

Don't worry, the 'apostate' will keep covering the event and reporting them. If the watchtower feels what the so called apostate are reporting are lies, then let them report then na? Or are they afraid?

The Watchtower taught all members to make public presentations for a one on one conversation with their neighbors about their Faith.Hebrews 10:23 Members lives by the rules of the organization as much emphasis is laid on the Bible (God's word)Act 6:7 Millions became believers(those who are OBEDIDIENT to the conclusion arrived by the leading team)Act 2:42 They're the ones you and i see often coming to knock our doors, they're zealous and industrious in what they're convinced to be the work of the Lord.1Corinthians 15:58 We're all free to ask them why they're coming or trying to prove themselves as evangelizers for Christ but it would be unfair if we're antagonizing them for having a solid faith.Act 5:34-39 I love knowing the truth about Christianity so i kept asking thought provoking questions everywhere i go and today i'm one of Jehovah's witnesses because they're the ONLY religious group that's able to give me SATISFYING answers to my questions with humility and deep respect! 1Peter 3:15 compared to Act 26:25-28 Thanks and may God bless US all

And yet, the above post is not about whether they evangelise or not. it is not about the rightness or their preaching or not. No, It's about something else completely.

It's about child sexual abuse and how they deny and cover it up. it is about how they refuse to report such a serious crime to the authorities. it is about how their policies allow paedophiles to continue to molest witness children and others in the community. it is about them no warning members of the congregation that they are serious sex offenders within them who is likely to reoffended . it is about holding them to account for the damage they have caused to children. it is about they pay millions in dollars to settle these cases in court using contributed funds.

that is the issue at hand and that is what is at stake. do not mix them up

Something that is all over the news. The worst thing is that when people (accuser) decide to take these pedophilles in the congregation to court watchtower tells them to withdraw privileges from these people (accuser). Jws end up shunning the accuser. It's a useless policy

Will you keep quiet? Who is distorting facts here? This one that does not know that his governing body member testified in court concerning the child abuse case. Lol. At least the cabbage is getting to you. So if the pedophilles keep denying you end up leaving the case in Jehovah's hands right? Lol.

Children don suffer. Children even have to face their rapists in front of 3 old men no lawyers present, no police present and no medical report.
So these old men will start asking the child the details of the rape? Then the pedophille denies thereafter, the case is left in Jehovah's hands. Wow
If the child's parents report to police and takes the criminal to court to prove the case, watchtower says the parents privileges should be taken. This consequently leads to the family of the child being shunned.
This is the most inhumane thing I have ever seen or heard of in my life
What kind of evil religion is this?
After they will say their organization is perfect and the true religion. Yet they hide criminals.

see, it is really funny. people that are most affected and exploited are defending their oppressors.

if watchtower has what it takes to face the exposure, let them take those whom you say spread half truth and distortion to court. let them open the Pandora box and see how or feels.

Currently, the lawsuit against the organization is in foreign countries. With time, it will get to African countries and Nigeria in particular, because the number of pedophiles hidden and their offense hidden by this organization is really high.

Also, do you know who is more afraid of lawsuit? If you don't, ask your elders why the organization instruct them to avoid being recorded either video or sound while they are having a judicial meeting.

The Watchtower 1995 Nov 1 pp.28-9 gave the following advice regarding accusations of child abuse.

"What Can Elders Do?

If the elders are approached by a member of the congregation who is experiencing flashbacks or repressed memories of child abuse, two of them are usually assigned to help. These elders should kindly encourage the afflicted one to focus for the time being on coping with the emotional distress. The names of any remembered abusers should be kept in strict confidence.

The elders primary task is to act as shepherds. (Isaiah 32:1,2; 1Peter 5:2,3) They should be especially careful to clothe [themselves] with the tender affections of compassion, kindness, lowliness of mind, mildness, and long-suffering. (Colossians 3:12) Let them listen in a kindly way and then apply healing words from the Scriptures. (Proverbs 12:18) Some who are afflicted with painful memories have expressed appreciation for elders who make regular visits or even telephone calls to check to see how they are doing. Such contacts need not take a lot of time, but they show that Jehovah's organization cares. When the afflicted one realizes that his Christian brothers truly love him, he may be helped to recover a considerable degree of emotional balance.

What if the sufferer decides that he wants to make an accusation? Then the two elders can advise him that, in line with the principle at Matthew 18:15, he should personally approach the accused about the matter. If the accuser is not emotionally able to do this face-to-face, it can be done by telephone or perhaps by writing a letter. In this way the one accused is given the opportunity to go on record before Jehovah with his answer to the accusation. He may even be able to present evidence that he could not have committed the abuse. Or perhaps the one accused will confess, and a reconciliation may be achieved. What a blessing that would be! If there is a confession, the two elders can handle matters further in accordance with Scriptural principles.

If the accusation is denied, the elders should explain to the accuser that nothing more can be done in a judicial way
And the congregation will continue to view the one accused as an innocent person
The Bible says that there must be two or three witnesses before judicial action can be taken. (2 Corinthians 13:1; 1 Timothy 5:19)

Even if more than one person remembers abuse by the same individual, the nature of these recalls is just too uncertain to base judicial decisions on them without other supporting evidence. This does not mean that such memories are viewed as false (or that they are viewed as true). But Bible principles must be followed in establishing a matter judicially.

What if the one accused though denying the wrong doing is really guilty? Does he get away with it, as it were? Certainly not! The question of his guilt or innocence can be safely left in Jehovah's hands. The sins of some men are publicly manifest, leading directly to judgment, but as for other men their sins also become manifest later. (1Timothy 5:24; Romans 12:19; 14:12) The book of Proverbs says: The expectation of the righteous ones is a rejoicing, but the very hope of the wicked ones will perish. When a wicked man dies, his hope perishes. (Proverbs 10:28; 11:7) Ultimately, Jehovah God and Christ Jesus render everlasting judgment in justice. 1 Corinthians 4:5."

This is an evil advise. What happened to going to the police to report these criminal cases? What happened to a medical examination? What happened to forensics/DNA report?

When you let stack illiterates take the lead in your religion you get pure evil in return

Come and see how watchtower changed its mouth after so much criticism from the public.

In recent weeks, the press in this country has focused attention on the way accusations of child abuse are handled by various religious organizations. Such reports may cause some sincere individuals to ask about the procedures followed by Jehovah's Witnesses.
We expect the elders to investigate every allegation of child abuse. Even one abused child is one too many. However, in evaluating the evidence, they must bear in mind the Bible's clear direction: "No single witness should rise up against a man respecting any error or any sin. At the mouth of two witnesses or at the mouth of three witnesses the matter should stand good." (Deuteronomy 19:15) Later, this requirement to consider testimony of two or three witnesses was confirmed by Jesus. (Matthew 18:16) Thus, although they investigate every allegation, the elders are not authorized by the Scriptures to take congregational action unless there is a confession or there are two credible witnesses. However, if two persons are witnesses to separate incidents of the same kind of wrongdoing, their testimony can be deemed sufficient to take action.-" I Timothy 5:19,24,25." - TO ALL CONGREGATIONS IN THE UNITED STATES Letter to Elders May 24, 2002

It took watchtower organization 7 years to realise that testimony of two or three persons witnessing separate incident is sufficient

For all your inhumane and evil laws you always blame God and the Bible.

Even though I'm not a member any more, an elder was excommunicated for sex offense and what I don't know is if he was taking to court but everybody knows he wasn't a member of jw again after complaints were laid against him.

I have my issue with them but they don't deal kindly with such people. He was actually used as example for parents to emulate cos it's very hard to see such act coming from parents.

Child sexual abuse happens every day and everywhere.

Any sane human hates child sexual abuse. Church goers and people that don't go to church. Every sane person hates it. That is beside the point.

Jw as an organization hates it. Individuals members hates it. The elders hate it. That is besides the point.

The point is, there is a reason government is holding the organization responsible for child sexual abuse within them and making them answer for their handling of it.

1. Child sexual abuse is a serious crime (like a rape) and should be reported to the authorities.
2. Child sexual abuse should not be handled by the elders as some form of a sin. (as it is currently done. If you has followed this case, you realize that at times the elders will ask the victim if she or he enjoined it. How did he feel and some stupid question like that. They basically treat the victim as suspect.)
3. Applying the 2 witness rule on child sexual abuse should never be done in this era. How the hell do you expect a child to produce 2 witnesses to his or her abuse? What happens to medical examination? Abusers molest children in secret.

The point is, if there are no two witnesses to the abuse or as they have change their rules to separate witnesses to separate abuse, nothing is done to the abuser, which then put the child at risk of further abuse and other child too. Because abusers are people well known to the child, uncles, father, brothers, trusted family friend, trusted Christian brothers or sisters. (putting the child at risk of further abuse or other children, would have been avoided if the proper authorities had been informed and allowed to investigate the case. This had been discovered in court cases)
4. Not informing parents of pedophiles in their congregation, which elders are aware of it and it is their responsibility to is another problem. Which it has been found to allow children to be abused.
5. All religions organizations have been mandated to report abuse cases brought to their attention. Watchtower tries to run away from this responsibility by claiming their elders are not clergy. (of course, that is not true. When they use these arguments in court, and it had been proven to them that their elders are clergy. They quickly settle the case out of court, without allowing it to enter full trial)
6. When all the above had been considered, it becomes clear that the watchtower is more interesting in their reputation than the safety and concern of these abuse victims.
7. Watchtower maintains a database of known pedophiles in their congregation. Their molesters continues to re-offend and not once are they they reported to the authorities.
(they have uses every trick in the books to ensure these database is no available to the court for inspection)

These and many more are the reasons the government holds them accountable for their actions.

JWs everywhere are aware of these legal cases. We won many of them &some others are still pending.
Every sensible & normal person would hear from both sides before they make up their mind but as for U its very easy to see that something is missing upstairs......
Indeed U your IBERIBEISM. is obvious to the world . Hence U come to a public forum to play God to judge & condemn JWs on issues that. the Court of law has yet to pass judgement.
Any one who lives by what he Hates is indeed a sick man. Abegi, pls proceed to Yaba or Uselu to see a shrink for thorough examination.
Won which one? How many? You won so many yet you didn't win all. What of the few you lost since you said you won many?
You want to see your perfect true religion blame God and the Bible for its evil policy on child abuse?

Even though I'm not a member any more, an elder was excommunicated for sex offense and what I don't know is if he was taking to court but everybody knows he wasn't a member of jw again after complaints were laid against him.

I have my issue with them but they don't deal kindly with such people. A lecturer then in school publicly dis associated himself from his wayward son who was caught stealing inside campus and told the authorities to deal with him as deemed fit hence the guy has refused to change. He was actually used as example for parents to emulate cos it's very hard to see such act coming from parents.
All organisations are made up of humans who are not perfect, the extortion going on in pentecostal churches are wickedness in its own. The type of prayers we hear everyday from pentecostal churches makes u think if there is love out there anymore.
So as u try to remove the speck in another's eye, do check us first.

Once they criticize your religion you find a way to either bring in Pentecostal or the Catholic church into the matter.
Your church member said it's better to keep pedophilles and rapists in the family than reporting them to police.
Your policies as regards to child abuse are evil and inhumane simple.

Do you know watchtower says it isn't a clergy yet they want the privileges given to the clergy to be given to their elders when they go to court?
Rotflol. You guys hide criminals and never report to the police.

Thank U for your observations. These frivolous allegations exposes what lies in the hearts of the OP & his ilk. Their rants & noises are like water poured inside a basket.. JWs have never claimed to be perfect. Yet, everywhere honest hearted people acknowledge they try to do what's right. All these well publicized news reports of Daddy GOs & pastorpreneurs licentious & adulterous liaisons ,how many of them have been publicly sanctioned or disciplined ? The OP & his ilk turn blind But them done get psychosis forJW matter.
They are not frivolous allegations. Didn't you see it in your magazines?
They are legit information. When they criticize your evil policies you turn a blind eye and start accusing daddy Go.
Wake up from your slumber. Your religion has caused harm to people.
