Chapter 20
Chapter title: She needs more.


"quite an expensive phone, it suits you" her mum's words made her chuckle as she fell back on her bed.

Maybe she should text him and tell him a polite thank you, she let out air as she picked up her phone. She fiddled with her keypads not sure if she should send him a message but that was the right thing to do after all he did previously. She blocked out negativity from her brain, typing him a message.

Thank you so much sir for today.

She read it over and over again. Okay, maybe it was a little plain, she typed in more words.

Joel couldn't stop talking about you.

Then she hit send. She dropped the phone by her side and was about closing her eyes when she heard the quiet beam of her phone. She shivered, staring at the light courtesy of her phone.

Of course she wasn't expecting a reply from him. Not immediately.

She chewed on her lips nervously as her hand groped for her phone. She couldn't hide her smile as she opened the message.

Daniel: what about you Genevieve?

She dropped the phone quickly as her heart began racing. Was he being serious? But the truth was yes, each time she tried closing her eyes, he would always be an intruder as her mind found pleasure inviting images of him. She needed to send him a reply, so she picked back her phone with her shaky fingers.

Genevieve: of course Sir, what you did today was pretty heroic.

He wasted no time sending her a reply.

Daniel: coming from you, I guess we could say that. So why aren't you asleep yet?

She thought for a while then smiled.

Genevieve: I tried writing.

Daniel: superb, I could give you some advice, you know. I do books too.

Genevieve laughed.

Genevieve: sir, I'm trying my best not to imagine you reading a book right now

She smiled as she rolled over, her belly facing the bed with her chin on the pillow. Eyes feasting on the phone.

Daniel: I'm not that bad Genevieve, it'd be a lovely sight, don't you think?

She grinned as she couldn't help but nod.

Genevieve: really? So how many books have you read in a span of ten years?

He hesitated for a second before replying.

Daniel: well if you consider documents as one then yeah, a lot.

Genevieve bursted out laughing, she covered her mouth with her hands to dismiss any stray sound. Her mum was just a wall away.

Genevieve: sir, you're just too much. Thanks for offering, I can pull it off myself.

Five minutes past still no response from him, she frowned. Maybe she was a little too hard on him. He was only trying to be nice and here she was acting like a bitter snowman.

She sighed, staring at the screen, hoping to see a message, then it happened.

Daniel: Genevieve?

It read, her eyebrows quirked as she typed a reply.

Genevieve: yes?

She could see the 'typing..' signal on then it suddenly disappeared. She stared confusedly at her phone wondering what she did wrong but it never appeared back, she waited patiently until she finally drifted to sleep with her phone in hand.

Genevieve arrived at the reception, her face gleamy. She said a good morning to the 29 year old receptionist, Brenda. Who also returned the kind gesture as she was always fond of Genevieve.

"Genevieve, the bo-" Brenda was about informing when a chirpy voice interrupted.

"Ah ah, this one you're smiling Genevieve..are we all safe?" Tope came in saying. Brenda giggled then shrugged.

"Good morning o, what are you trying to say? Can't I smile again?"

"Of course my friend but this is just too broad, even for you" Tope announced as they both got in the lift.

Genevieve laughed "I'm actually hearing this for the first time"

"So he finally did it?" Tope searched Genevieve's fingers, Scanning them.

"Who?"

"Gabriel, he proposed right? Tell me he did" Tope dropped her fingers and inspected Genevieve's face.

"Gosh! Tope, he didn't. What gave you that impression?"

Tope frowned then hissed "then why were you now grinning like the Cheshire cat in Alice in wonderland?"

Genevieve smiled "no-"

"Wait. I've been hearing quite a rumour about you and Mr. Daniel--"

Genevieve stared at Tope in shock, wondering if Tope knew about the pictures and tabloids, maybe she actually did.

Tope laughed "--but of course not, I would be the first to know. Nothing gets past me in this organisation. That's my cup of tea"

Genevieve relaxed. That means Tope absolutely had no idea. She couldn't help but thank God for saving her a mouth full of explanation this morning.

"Your cup of tea indeed" Genevieve replied sarcastically. What an irony. She wasn't that good at it.

They got to Tope's floor. Tope hurried out, winking at Genevieve before proceeding to her spot.

The doors closed again as Genevieve waited until she finally reached hers. She smiled one last time before getting seated. Her gaze wandered to Daniel's office. She knew for a fact he hasn't arrived yet. So she stood up and quietly walked to his office. It was surprisingly unlocked as the doorknob succumbed to her request. She got into his office quietly seeing no one. She looked around her eyes catching a view of the beautiful city. She walked to the window, peering at the skyscrapers and she giggled.

"This is amazing"

"I think so too" a voice responded. She stiffened, closing her eyes. Why now? She knew it was him. Why so early? She turned around slowly, biting her lips.

Daniel was leaning onto a wall with folded arms and his eyes, dancing in amusement as he stared back at Genevieve who had turned a different shade out of embarrassment. He smirked, watching her look anywhere but him.

"Erm, sir. I-i...the door wasn't locked so I, I thought I should- when did you come in?" She blushed at her own words making him chuckle. Normally he should be maddened by her entering into his office but this time he finds it cute. Finds her cute.

She was trembling, was she scared? He wondered. He didn't want her to be, was he that bad?

He remembered when he came into the building earlier, two of the employees were seated in the reception discussing playfully and once they noticed his presence they sprinted so fast that one continued to perform series of somersaults as his body wasn't stable all because if him.

Then in the lift. Three employees got in, unaware of his presence, seeing he was at the back of the box.

"That Mr. Coker is such a callous man, very wicked." one said.

"Man ke? He's a young boy o. If not for hard times I'm experiencing right now, what am I doing here?" The second said.

"I agree, because he's handsome and rich, he thinks he's got it all. I'm even more handsome, it's condition my brother" the last laughed saying.

"Who's deceiving you? Can you compare this muscles to yours?" The first joked, flexing his muscles.

Then the last man noticed an unknown figure "why are you not saying anything. Hey,hey" he tapped at Daniel's shoulder.

"I hope he isn't some kind of an informant o" the second man panicked. Then Daniel looked up, the three of them gasped as they frantically punched all the buttons they could find in the lift wanting to escape his hard gaze. They all jumped out hurriedly pushing each other as they ran off.

Daniel sighed, callous? So this was what they thought of him. He was about calling Mr. Augustine to get those employees kicked out but he paused, that would actually make him guilty of what they accused him of.

Now seeing Genevieve. She'd be the last person he would intentionally hurt, he thought he showed her that already yesterday or maybe she needed more confirmation.
