Sky so dark
like the inside of cistern,
The earth so hot
like Fiery furnace.
The sea roars abysmally
like dungeon dragon.
Crickets sing sad song
Saying, It's night in Nigeria.

This night is bizarrely,
Quite protracted too!
Red like embers, Bullets fly,
in the air like firefly,
Looking for people to kill!
This gloom rains ice block
Of bullets in children's spines.
This night at noonday
leaves youths with scars
Of matchete wounds like gully canals.
Where are they stars?
Where's the moon?
Where's God and the angels that guide?
Is this a night or an eclipse of heaven?

Living in trepidation
Like a culprit of crime,
Fear spreads her wings
Like blanket, she covers and lags.
Of the crimes we commit,
We do not know.
But it is time to die,
The killer herdsmen declare.
