The Imo state Commissioner for secondary and basic education Mrs Gertrude Oduka, said the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme of the federal government in the state is on course and has so far recorded an appreciable success.
The commissioner disclosed this in her office while briefing newsmen.
Mrs Oduka said the exercise is fully funded by the federal government adding that 1226 out of the 1279 primary schools in the state have been captured in the exercise since its establishment in the state in November 2017.
The education commissioner expressed regret that the remaining 53 primary schools yet to be captured were due to challenges rising from wrong BVN and incorrect names submitted by the food vendors. She said measures have been put in place by the ministry to resolve the challenges.
Mrs Oduka stated that the exercise has given the free education policy of the Rescue Mission Government of Gov. Rochas Okorocha a massive boost and lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for the initiative.
She however called on journalists in the state and other good spirited citizens to partner the ministry of education to ensure the programme records optimal result
Twenty two states across the federation are currently benefiting from the programme, the states Abia, Anambra,Enugu, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ebonyi, Zamfara, Delta, Benue, Plateau, Bauchi, Taraba, kaduna, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, Imo, Jigawa, Niger, Kano, Kastina and Gombe
