From what I saw...

That tanker had no brakes or the handbrake was not engaged.

There was no driver in the cab.

Men are seen trying to stop the tanker rolling back by throwing shocks at the wheels.

Furthermore...

I can almost guarantee that the men/driver/cab-mate escaped unhurt. They usually do, as they are always alert to the consequences of their ignorance and frankly, terrifyingly stupid actions.

In conclusion...

My condolences to the victims of this disaster. My they rest in peace and may God grant their families the strength to bear the loss.

While someone in government is asking for us to "pray", we would encourage him to get off his knees and propose the following to local and state government in Naija:

1. Tankers should not ply local roads
2. If they must, it must be with an escort and only during night times, or less busy hours.
3. Look to encourage the government to move fuel via underground pipes, barges, etc and put an end to this menace on our lives.
4. That after all these have been raised, that we join him in prayer that he and his fellow politheifcians may receive sense to do what is required.
5. He resigns from power if this is beyond his mental faculties to suggest, talk more of doing.

Human beings...who is the person that said a passenger bus moved in without checking and then caused the accident?

Dont mind them

Looking at the video i think the accident was triggered by brake failure

The tanker driver got uphill but could not continue moving forward due to the trailer in front which was was not moving and as a result if rolled back causing the accident.

Tragic loss .

kudos to Lagos State Government for clearing the road within 24hrs. Her emergency response team is second to non in Nigeria. Well done
Emergency only to clean burnt roads and move corpses but no emergency to rescue victims during the inferno. They'll only come when the people have burnt to ashes

do they have the license plate of the tanker.
the first thing is prosecution of the owner for criminal negligence
a big, public trial. people need to understand once ad for all that the petroleum business is not for everybody. that is the real root of these issues

Yesterday, I commended the efforts of Lagos State Agencies for their response to the sad incident & the situation report released yesterday by LASEMA's General Manager. This shows not everything is bad about Nigeria. Lagos is working. Lagos has so many agencies in different areas from finance, Judiciary, commerce down to transport & emergency management where the agencies at work yesterday night till this morning carried out their duties.

That is why the casualties are not much and the road cleared less than 24hrs. Continuity from Tinubu, Fashola to Ambode has made management of large government ministries & agencies a working one.

^^^

This is not the time and place for image laundering. Those people did not have to die.

There is an agency called the Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) (http://www.dvis.lg.gov.ng/about.html). It is a directorate in the state ministry of transportation. One of its stated duties is "ensuring all vehicles plying roads are roadworthy at all times".

If the Vehicle Inspection Service was doing its job, that tanker would not have been allowed on the road. It is beyond callous for you to casually state (as you did above) that Lagos is 'working' and "that is why the casualties are not much". undecided

There are times when silence is prudent. Let the grieving bury their dead in peace.

Lagos state govt; the most effective govt in Nigeria. Even more effective than federal govt. Although, Lagos state ministries and public agencies/institutions are notorious with corruption, bribery, and injustice to the disadvantaged people, but they are more effective and efficient in discharging their responsibilities compared to other states. One can safely conclude that good governance is more pronounced in Lagos probably due to the brilliant and enlightened individuals that are in leadership position in the state.

Comparing Lagos with the rest states in the federation is just like comparing a developed/civilized nation with a developing/transition country.

Politicking in the face of failure.

I don't know your motives for starting a shitstorm but the truth will set you free.

The Lagos State VIS failed to discharge its responsibilities and that's how that tanker was allowed to get on that road to kill people. That is all there is to say about this.

Spare us the nonsense about 'brilliance', 'enlightenment' and all the other drivel you have up there. Let the grieving bury their dead in peace!!

You'd better advise your state governor to come and learn how to govern from Lagos Govt.

Typical.

Nothing to say about the points I raised. Just more of the same - the party/government propaganda line.

My mistake was not checking your previous posts to have an insight into your mindset - before calling you out on this thread.

This makes it different,
They just made it seem as though the tanker had an accident and people knew, and it was so obvious that people were leaving their cars and running away.

But it seems as though the tanker was off to the side before it exploded, how were people who were coming from behind supposed to know that there was something wrong with the tanker?
The guy who was blaming the dead saying they had a chance to escape was out of line.

I see no chance here to escape, If not that this guy was lucky enough to drive past the tanker before it exploded , he would have died too,

That was very crass of the person who blamed the dead.

Not blaming the dead. But if we are to be honest Petrol smells a lot. And i can even see the spillage even from the video here....

Videos dont lie

Show us the video of the bus

We were fortunate to see a dash cam video

Watch the video again

The truck was in same lane with the tanker

As the tanker rolled back the driver must have tried applying his brakes to no avail.
