This is untrue. There have been several teardowns of iPhones to see how much the components cost and the price is usually between $150-$200, how does this justify a $600-$1000 price tag? IPhone X teardown deduced the parts cost less than $400 still $1000 is a significant markup.

Apple have succeeded in marketing their brand as premium quality and the price reflects it, the price does not reflect the real cost of the phone components.

Apple generally prices their phones much higher than Samsung.
Samsung S9 series are months older than iPhone 8 series so it's imminent for it to be more expensive but iPhone X is costlier despite having cheaper hardware and just slightly more expensive than Samsung S8.
