that's a lie. The names or words doesn't and wouldn't sound English. It's the written aspect that looks like English word.

But you are correct. Unlike the Europeans, we did not have any form or written alphabets to spell anything. We passed on our knowledge by mouth, from Generation to generation. Egypt had Hyrogliphics (symbols), Ethiopia, had their own letters for writing. The rest of Africa, nothing. Till whitemen came to colonise, hear our language, then attempt to use ENGLISH ALPHABETS, consonants and Vowels, to spell the sounds they were hearing. Carry the written text and give us back as our language.
Why won't some words look like English words? But pronounced differently.

But u are daft to know that those yoruba names are in short form.

Chukwudi here can be called Chuks in short form.
Now doesn't that sound English?
