Ghana signed it.

Do you know what 1.5 billion comsumer market means for our economy?
What is Ghana looking to export? As opposed to importing huge loads of foreign goods.

Sorry, I don't take African leaders seriously.

There is a reason Africa is a shitthole. Policies suck in the continent.

The countries to benefit would be Morocco, Ethiopia, and South Africa.

Am happy to see that Nigerians who actually use them brain still exists in dis country, most of the graduates we are churning out are mostly useless crammers with useless certificate which they can't even defend after finishing school
Lol. the mistake with most graduates especially in this country is their narrow prespective in life. They tend focus only in the area they graduate from, disregarding other areas. My profession is in the medical field, but i've also cultivated interest in economics, entrepreneurship, philosophy, politics, entertainments, sports, agriculture, ICT, civil engineering etc. i may not be a specialist in these areas, but i study them to atleast have a general knowledge about them and have some basic form of understanding when discussions are made about them. Morever i want to become an investor, even though i don't have the money now, i can atleast read up on the various industries, you never can tell when an idea can pop up. So the problem with most Nigerian graduates is that they are not versatile. they only focus in their area of expertise neglecting other areas.

Deal that will benefit Nigerians more than any African country buhari will not sign. He is more interested in a deal for Fulanis from other African countries that will give them access to lands in the middle belt. Nigeria is a country that kills its citizen, the country is an enemy of progress. angry

The way Nigeria is now, if Oyibo bring ship to start shipping people to the Europe/America for slave trade, people will be struggling to enter.

if you had not left your country to other African countries you will think that Nigeria is the most advanced in Africa. a free trade with Morocco and Angola alone will collapse our economy.

It's good to voice your opinions but if your parents didn't teach you how to honour specific people, teach yourself.

They are pastors and not political analysts. They have their jobs and are facing it. By the way, what makes you think they are happy with what's going on

Silence doesn't mean consent... contrary to public opinion.

Learn to give honour to whom honor is due... if they didn't teach you that or if you didn't learn it deliberately.

Look to political analysts and not pastors for political issues. Everyone has his job.

Thank you jare.
The uninformed pastors are saying things by impulse and the gullible people are believing them. Truth remains that some politicians arming the killers come on line to fan embers of division.
Not all men of God fall that easily. Those that truly hear from God will not come out and say something just because every one is saying something.

Very soon I believe the truth will come to light.

You are as dumb as Buhari.

AU is a community of 55 nations not Nigeria and South Africa.

Buhari just cost us a 1.2 billion consumer market.

If SA bests us in certain goods, can they best us in Agricultural products?

Then you’re more foolish than I thought.

Do you even have enough agricultural produce to feed your own population let alone export enough?

BTW SA has better agricultural produce than Nigeria does you this ignoramous.

Let me repeat for you if you don’t have the brain to read before.

Francophone countries don’t produce anything they only repackage European and Asian products which obviously nigerian products cannot compete with.

You mentioned Nigerian electric cables

Kindly mention at least 50 Nigerian products that can compete favourably with foreign products then we can talk.

BTW look around you, can’t you see you’re the only one foaming from the mouth.

As an Igbo well versed in global economics, pls take note that Free Trade is not good.

What Africa needs is Fair Trade and not Free Trade.

Fair Trade is a Trade in which Protectionism and Free Trade are balanced.

I won't advice any country to subscribe to free trade.

Protectionism is needed to protect local industries while Free Trade is needed to make up for local demand.

In Switzerland, they adopt a Fair Trade Tactics in which they only allow foreign products to meet up local demand.

Example

If they need 1million eggs a day and they can only produce 500 thousand eggs daily, then will they allow inflow of another 500 thousand at a rate not cheaper than local eggs.

If they need 1million chickens a day and they can produce 1 million chickens daily, they block their borders to foreign chickens so as to preserve their industries/jobs.

That is how Fair Trade works and that is what Biafra will adopt.

You just don't open your market when you can still produce locally and that is why bilateral trade is better.

Unfortunately, the zoo don't have a data on what quantity they need and what quantity they can produce in order to know what quantity to import in order to protect their local industries as well as meet their national demands.

CSTR1005 can explain better to you also.

Is that not the reality?

We don’t have anything to offer and we have not had anything to offer for over 30years. We use the money we get from crude oil to buy everything we need. We can’t even produce what we consume.

PMB now came and ban most of these things from importation that we should start producing locally people are now against him.
The little money we get from crude oil that is not enough to sustain our overbloated population we were using it to import.

Now some people have come up with a strategy again to make nigeria a dumping ground for foreign products and PMB has once again refused.

PMB by far has the best policies that puts Nigeria first in anything. The only shortcoming is the security issue.
I am happy he did not sign it. But pls do not tell me outright banning of importation is the best solution. This is how it should be done. Products with high local production capacity should attract higher tarrif. We wunt even have to band any product. The market forces and tarrif will make it difficult for any body to import what is produced locally. We also have to ensure that those manufacturing in the country pay tax too.

You are an Economist. I can sense it from your analysis.

Don't mind the illiterates.

Buhari just cost 1.2 billion market.

This free movement means when things start to adjust, Nigerian goods will appear costly.

For instance, SA goods going to Ghana will be cheaper than Nigerian goods because of the tariff. A lot of country will abandon our goods.

Imagine also what this would have mean for Innoson. The company would be able to access many market with restrictions. This is will cause an increase in production. This means more workers and more tax for the government.

1.2 billion market is what people will kill for. A lot of foreign companies are likely to exit out economy to access that large market.

Nigeria remains the preferred destination for foreign investments because of the size of her market, now AU is creating a market far larger than Nigeria's and our dull President refuses to consolidate Nigeria dominance of Africa market by abstaining.

We just lost an opportunity to secure more FDI. Just watch how foreign investors will flood coastal African countries in order to take advantage of this free market.

Those manufacturing should not be taxed above 5% in order to enable them reinvest into their businesses which will create more jobs, cheaper products etc.

Pls avoid multiple or over taxing the local industries for now since they have to provide themselves electricity and pay money due to poor infrastructures.

Do you know why US lost 87000 industrial base to China.? Free Trade which flooded US with cheaper products and wiped off their industries.

I hope you understand now why Trump is introducing a little bit of Protectionism.?

Fair Trade and not Free Trade is the best.

I respect your view as a fellow Biafran. Though not official yet, the killings just reset my brain.

Back to the topic.

You are looking it from one angle, that is inflow of goods into this shi.thole but you failed to look at it from the angle of Innoson and others accessing the 1.2 billion market.

I am an Economist and I subscribe to a view I call Conservative Capitalism.

Believe me, Africa is not a threat to this shi.thole, this is Nigerias opportunity to conquer this continent for good. We have the largest single market already and Foreign investors long term most preferred destinations, offering them further opportunity to access a larger market using Nigeria as a base is something they would kill for.

With Nigeria now out of this, we have lost the largest market to AU and sensible investors would try to access that market. Since this country can't offer them a base, what do you think they will do?

Leave.

I would have been skeptical if the Free Trade has western countries as members, but it doesn't.

Believe me this free movement will make Nigerian products more costly.

Anyway, how do I pick IPOB form. The killing is too much.

With this common market now, there will be 2 mega markets in Africa, AU's 1.2 billion Mega Market and Nigeria's 180 Million market. Which market do you think Investors would love to access?

We would conquered Africa if our 180 Million market can access that 1.2 billion market. Foreign Investors would use Nigeria as a base to access that AU market.

My broda what you just said would have been the best in an ideal environment but in a country with a very porous land border, how do you deifferentiate the product that paid the high tariffs from the ones that didn’t pay anything?

If the tariffs are too high people would rather smuggle it than take it through the ports. So the only effective way to deal with it is outright ban so that anywhere it is seen in the market, it is confiscated.

Somebody is running all over this thread spitting rubbish...

Why would foreign investors use this country as base over other African countries?

why?

The population?
nope, the now have a bigger combined market

Good road/rail network?
Nope, we're about the worst in africa

Stable Electricity?
Nope, we can't even meter everyone

Security?
we kill ourselves daily

Somebody with sense please give me one good reason...

we still import everything

we don't have anything to export, because cost of production is usually high and same goods can be produced for cheaper somewhere else in Africa and dumped in Nigeria

Nigeria is not even self sufficient at the moment, we hardly export anything and our products may not be durable or the best when competing with products from SA, Morocco, Egypt and the European countries.
This is so due to dilapidated infrastructure in Nigeria, hence while we may eventually sign this deal, it is paramount we fix some things. Nigeria is not just any African country, we have large population and variably large problems.

Here is the deal, the deal here is that we are meant to benefit from this deal if we had a good country..

But for how long are we going to shy away from reality.

I knew countries like Morocco and South Africa and Algeria will sign this. These countries have functioning local manufacturing industries that even compete with their European counterparts. This deal would have favoured Nigeria but, after PDP killed Nigeria, APC came to bury it.

Nigeria is a disgrace and the earlier all of us, I mean all of us, accept this bitter truth, the better for us.

It is sad how some people still try to paint Nigeria well.
