Inception: In trying to solve this (yourself), you may have complicated matters. You have gone changing internal parts, which is sending you chasing your tail on this. It is hard to follow what you have done, which to me, is now looking like a moving target. You have a Nigeria spec car, and you are throwing US spec parts at it. You may have two options now - 1. Get a US computer and mate with your current transmission. 2. Go to Kia Dealership and let them sell you a Nigeria spec transmission. Just calm down. Remember what you saw with the U150? |

Kashif: Thanks for the advice bro.I assure you I have not complicated anything at all. However if I follow your advice, I think the latter is easier. The former cannot be done cos the engine management software is only for the GDI engine variants..But. Nigeria spec transmission from KIA? Na die be DAT na.... Now back to the question ... Do you think it will work? To be honest I enjoy the adventure this entails. The level of understanding I have acquired in this quest is unbelievable I understand the transmission like the back of my hand. An alternative option I have is to order the gear transfer drive( where the output speed sensor takes it's readings from), the final drive pinion and the final drive gear.I have identified the website where this can be purchase already. For me, that is even more exciting cos I will have a chance of rebuilding the transaxle... Don't worry something must kill a man 1 Like |

Been in hiatus as per the 'project'.... So, i tore open the transmission after getting it dropped to inspect the internal parts. The insides was quite clean i must say... i compared the final drive of mine to that of the transmission of the Hyundai, obvouls there was a difference in the teeth/gearing. But then i checked the intermediate gear where the output speed sensor took its reading...Non. matching Did a further check online and then i realised that the transmission originally installed on the vehicle was specific for non-GDI engines( Theta II 2.0/2.4, Nu 2.0 CVVT) with the code name A6MF1( narrow band). The one in the car was A6MF2 (Narrow band) installed on the Theta II 2.4 GDI engines, while the one i removed was A6MF2(wide band) installed in the Hyundai santafe 2wd. Now i know why people hate the Hyundai /KIA brand when it comes to parts! two gearboxes looking exactly similar , yet they are different internally! So i just jejely packaged the gear back and installed in the vehicle and decided to source for the exact replacement (still suffering from 2-3 flares) ... Advise for peeps on this forum... If you are to buy any vehicle(used or Toks) PLEASE avoid the ones bought brand new in Nigeria. In the event a major component like transmission is to be replaced , you may run into extreme difficulty locating an exact replacement and even if you do, the price will be astronomical. Go for the American spec. 1 Like |

thebigkendo: My brother, The vehicles sold as brand new for the Nigerian market are : 1. Basically watered down variants of the American counterparts ( imagine a 2012 KIA optima with only driver and passenger airbag, Manual seats, OBD 1 capability , and a mere ABS system only?!, where the american spec comes with a more powerful engine (GDI), driver, passenger, curtain airbag as standard, Bluetooth capability as standard... 2. Most car parts( Engine, Transmission) you get today are sourced from the US/canada, compared with fewer ones sourced fom Japan/ Korea. This implies the ones coming from the Asian countries to be more Expensive( although they are usually with much lower mileages and in some cases better quality ) 3. More as i remember... 2 Likes 1 Share |

Inception: I've always been warning people off those cars made for Nigerian markets. Even the difference in price of engines between the two specs is astronomical, that is apart from the better build of the North American specs. 1 Like 1 Share |

timifakay: Why do you doubt it. Most Nigerian branded Kia and Hyundai are always short changed in terms of component installed. Hyundai Tucson 2011 was short changed interms of installing a climate control to the conventional AC system |
