Twenty female students of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, drawn from Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics disciplines have been selected to participate in the Federal Government Energizing Education Program.
This hint was dropped by the Program Manager, Energizing Education Program, Bar. Anita Otubu when she led a team from the Rural Electrification Agency, Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing to take-over the site for the construction of a solar farm in the university.



The Energizing Education Program is a federal government fully-funded programme geared towards providing reliable, affordable and renewable energy for the 37 federal universities and all the teaching hospitals in Nigeria.
AE-FUNAI is one of the nine Federal universities in Nigeria that are benefiting from the programme at first instance. When completed, the project would provide one mega watt of electricity to power the entire university community and its surrounding communities, enhance learning process, facilitate teaching and research and other online academic activities as well as promote security of lives and property in the university.



While addressing members of the University Management, Otubu noted: “At the construction phase of this project, the contractor has been directed to facilitate the participation and training of 20 female students of the university who are in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics”, and urged the university to furnish her office with the names of the selected students.
This according to her was to build the experiential capacities of the students by providing them with the needed hands-on skills and functional knowledge in their respective disciplines, as they learn by doing in the course of the project execution.
Consequently, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba immediately directed the Deans and Heads of department of “STEM’ programmes to as a matter of urgency select and submit the names of students to participate in the program, even as he promised to provide the necessary support for the speedy completion of the project.



This capacity building opportunity is in tandem with the vision of the Vice-Chancellor to turn-out globally competitive graduates with the technical skills and practical knowledge to contribute to national development.
