PearlStreet: Funny enough most people in Nairaland haven't done any business not to talk of being in manufacturing sector. The policies of government can cripple a firm overnight. The government policy on forex closed my production line. I have to sack my staff and start another thing. Nigeria is the worst place to be a manufacturer, no light, raw materials, waivers etc; yet you are expected to compete with bigger players and sell at affordable price. 3 Likes |

Use your head small..a company will close its proximity to Lagos office with the million of people in Lagos..then concentrate on Ibadan whey them never chop finish 1 Like |

philip0906:PearlStreet: Unfortunately "real question" from you both simply shows that you both need to get out of school and learn the real business world. Did your friend mention an indictment on "actuarial scientists" .... learning can be exciting and I see a quick urge to show it 1. Some of you want to force-down the "shut-down" narrative on this discourse. It will only make you naive. The company has simply said the publication from premium times is false. When I here stuffs liks "a soul in the company" or an unnamed source, I usually exercise restrain because Nigeria media is fast becoming gossip, scare-mongering and fake news 2. As per reason for the shut-down we can play some scenarios. Let's start from a simple business decision. So their planners realizes that numbers and stats projections favour relocation of the plant line to Ibadan - proximity to raw material network, deeper integration into local markets, state tax havens, cost-reduction objectives..... It could be a correction of an hitherto wrong business decision. If they made a mistake, do you expect them to admit it to you in person and look bad in the face of competition? |

Senselin: What about cost-management, what about proximity to materials? What about proximity to other markets while still maintaining closeness to Lagos? Thing is, we can postulate, but the business strategy of P&G can only be determined by P&G. 1 Like |

PearlStreet: Could be the exact reason why P&G opt to relocate. If Lagos hub is saturated and they decide to open up new spaces. A consideration could be the discovery that they are late to the game and may want to change their approach |
Re: Correct Facts About Why P&G Is Shutting Down Its $300 Million Agbara Plant by PearlStreet(m): 10:44am On Jul 07, 2018 |
mapet: Hayat (makers of Mofix diapers) have a 100M USD factory in that same Agbara and they've pushed P&G to second place with their 300M USD factory. What are they getting right that P&G is not getting right? P&G has always been in Oluyole Industrial Estate in Ibadan before coming to open the diaper line in Agbara. What is making them run back to Oluyole when their competition is making it in Agbara? P&G got to Agbara before Hayat but Hayat has managed to corner the larger market share. Why is that so? Forget name calling as answer the above questions. |
