Arsenal have congratulated Olivier Giroud After the Chelsea Star helped France win the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Giroud spent five-and-a-half years at Arsenal, making 253 appearances and scoring 105 goals.

But after losing his place in the starting XI to Alexandre Lacazette and with fearsover making France’s World Cup squad, Giroud left the Emirates in January.

He then scored five goals and won the FA Cup to seal a place as France’s first choice striker.

And after France won the final by beating Croatia 4-2, Arsenal took to Twitter to hail Giroud’s achievement.

They tweeted: “From Grenoble to Istres.

“From Tours to Montpellier.

“From Arsenal to a regular for #FRA.

“And now… a #WorldCup winner!

“What a journey you've had, Olivier - we're all so pleased for you.”

In 546 minutes at this World Cup for France, Giroud failed to hit the target.

shame on arsenal for letting him go. giroud doesn't have pace but he has what most strikers don't have. he's probably the best target man in the whole of europe and his hold-up/link-up play is excellent.

He was really the one used to distract opponents' defenders. He was at this WC what Drogba was to Chelsea in his first season under maurinho - just lift and contest for ball with defenders. And he did that so perfectly well.

In all of this, I just pity benzema.

Lacazette would have been a better option.

giroud was the worse player on the french team, how did he make the team ? he was the only weak link. i think they put him there just so the team does not appear to be all african boys
