A coalition of domestic and international election observers accredited to observe the July 14 governorship poll in Ekiti State said the election fell short of global best practices and electoral standards.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Kayode Fayemi, as the winner of the election.

The observers, who comprised representatives from over 50 domestic organisations, human rights groups and international election observer bodies, based their report on lapses noticed in the conduct of the election, especially the role of security agencies.

The observers include Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness, Nigeria; Justice and Equity Organisation, Nigeria; International Republican Institute, United States of America; and Patriotic Women Foundation, Abuja, as well as the other bodies from the African Unions, among others.

The observers, who praised INEC for the proper conduct of the poll in line with global and constitutional dictates and standards, faulted the deployment of 30,000 policemen for the election.

The observers stated that the conduct of some of the security operatives and unwholesome practices of vote buying — where voters surreptitiously showed which party they voted to party agents who went behind to settle them, largely marred the electoral process.

They also said the election was characterised by ballot box snatching, sporadic shootings and driving away of some party agents as well as intimidation, oppression and forceful influence of electorate’s free will, among others.

The observers, therefore, held that the July 14 poll could not be recommended as a template for the forthcoming 2019 general elections as it fell short of global standards and spelt doom.

Addressing newsmen on behalf of the domestic observers, Gabriel Nwambu, of the Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness, Abuja, said, “The exercise witnessed a high level of unprecedented electoral related challenges and such abuse will remain contentious until justice prevails, especially in the areas of cash inducement, arrests of political stalwarts by security agents and snatching of electoral materials by political thugs, among other abuses.

“Party agents had huge cash and were close to voting points. Security agents were indifferent to cash inducement of voters. The whole process falls short of the compliance with international best standards.”

Ekiti should remember not to cry or whine about their future suffering.

This is the same Fayemi who wasn't paying salaries in 2015, who they have now brought back to show them pepper in 2018.

People who ignore history are not only foolish, they're doomed to repeat it.

They let themselves be bought for nothing. Then they cry about corruption when they themselves are inherently corrupt to their rotten core.

US should back off and they should mind their business.
If we as adults cannot do what is right then let us pay for our mistakes. Nigeria is already a mistake and a failed nation. I don't see it getting better again.

And yet that lanky demon needs another 242 billion to conduct another charade of election in 2019??

Here is the full report ...I wonder why yours is scanty anyways

Fayemi was not governor in 2015, Fayose was.

And to counter it, Fayemi left governance owning just one month and the month of the handover (which had not ended yet) while no civil servant in Ekiti has been paid salary for any month in 2018 by Governor Fayose

You are correct.

What you left out was Fayose couldn't pay the workers because the APC federal government was withholding over N12 billion owed to Ekiti state for construction and road rehabilitation works. Instead of the federal government to release these funds; Fayemi colluded with the commissioner of Finance (Dapo Kolawole) to block the federal refund through court procedures.

This court action is what has helped up the funds and made it impossible for Fayose to pay the workers.

So pray tell, how can this same Fayemi come and pretend to be Ekiti savior when he is the cause of their problems?

This is the wickedness of Nigeria. These politicians make problems of their own hands and hold the solution until they get what they want. Then they parade themselves as martyrs, saviors who have done well for the people when all they have done is brought unnecessary hardship and suffering.

Where do you people spin these false stories from?

Fayose has gotten 2 bail outs, 2 Paris loan refund and is still not able to pay salaries.
The bridge he built in Fajuyi which has no traffic is worth 14 billion (?) Is that not enough to pay 3-4 month salaries?

Fayose's inability to pay salaries is the fault of the state government

Why aren't you being truthful?

* The Paris loan refund was received a year ago and it was supposed to be distributed between all local governments. As far as we know it was done properly.

* One of those bailouts was years ago. The recent bailout EFCC needed to get involved at Fayose's request because the commissioner of finance and AG were diverting/stealing funds.

You mention the bridge he built and how it could have paid salaries, correct?

That is my point.

The Federal Government OWES Ekiti state for construction and road works; that bridge being part of it. Had Fayemi not went to court to block the reimbursement of the funds; wages would have been paid.

Fayemi delayed the release of the N12 billion using court action, then built his campaign on Fayose not paying the workers.... something Fayemi was accused of doing during his tenure. It worked perfectly and as we can see you bought the charade hook line and sinker.

You have no proof of this. Just more uneducated accusations without actual merit.

I am no fan of Fayose. I don't think he is a bad guy, but he like every other politician in that country are agenda driven.

My point is to make Fayemi a hero when it was that same Faymei who delayed FG reimbursement monies which would have paid for wages is pathetic and laughable.

He sabotaged and now will benefit from his well thought out plan. That is the Nigerian way.

It's why leadership is recycled. That country is failing under an ancient Buhari.... now a near ancient Atiku wants to replace him and no one sees problems with it.

Anyways, you guys collect your stipend and continue the circus of a cycle.

Like I always say,

After election is concluded the losers should either accept defeat or go to tribunal with whatever evidence they have instead of endless wails on Social media.

We supposedly lost the election in Ekiti according to official results but we will do well to approach the tribunal to seek redress since we feel aggrieved.

If the country was sane, shouldn't the two parties involved in vote buying be disqualified. If to use as a lesson, let the third placed party be given the mandate.

Besides, this has got to be the funniest election as the pdp candidate seems more or less unknown. Apart from his master, haven't seen much or heard of him. Makes you wonder who exactly is trying to be governor.

Even as at when the bailouts were payed, the state government was owing. What are you talking of?

How can the FG refund the Ekiti state government for a bridge? Is the bridge a federal bridge?

It belongs to the state and the FG has no business with it. It is not on a federal road and so why is he expecting payback according to you?

I also hope you know that the Fayose administration has gotten more money from the FG than Fayemi's administration.

Oh, the money Fayose is crying that he wants back was not for roads constructed by his government but by Fayemi's government which GEJ's admin did not payback. If you want to debate it, please show me the projects he built, the FG roads he fixed that the funds should be refunded

So please, how does this owing 7-month salary make sense to you?

To be honest I don't even know what evidence they can use. The voting public were manipulated with a great plan; starve Ekiti of the last reimbursement to impede the governor from paying wages before the election.

Then flood Ekiti with AbachaDollars and watch the people sell their birthright for a kobo.

PDP tried to buy them to but they couldn't match the federal buying power.

Words of wisdom but you suppose to know that some Africans got the DNA of selling their birthright from Esau, especially the people of Ekiti state (sorry to say).

Being broke is not the issue but poverty is a serious issue. It's funny to know that the people who collected cash might be doing well. This is not about hunger, it's about state of mind. The money collected can't even go beyond a day and it's funny you see elders in the land fighting to grasp the peanut cash.

Only if we realised that the so called elites see the masses as hungry puppets, maybe then the sanity of people will be restored.
