Oh I just read the full story now ( I only watched the video before) he lost both engines at V2 during a takeoff climbs and the bank was an attempt to return back to the airport ..its now clearer why he didn't kill that engine ( you can't kill both engines at V2 no matter what )

Any engine on fire must be shut off.

The wings would simply melt off and take the fire engine with it.

I have no issue with the engines shut off per se, who knows maybe he did send the command but the wires were damaged. My issue is the turn.

Nice paradoxical maneuver by the pilot to prevent attitude loss but a left turn would have caused centrifugal acceleration to extinguish the fire on the left engine as well as activating the auxiliary engine to provide more thrust to the aircraft.

I noticed the left engine was on fire and was still left on instead of being killed and the fire extinguished , it's seems the pilot intentionally left it on to try to stretch his glide as far as he could which clearly shows the right engine must have completely stopped working earlier .... Off the top of my head I can guess that both engine must have sucked in some external debris at the same time .e.g like a flock of small birds , hail , stones or even a swarm of locusts..

These passengers were very very lucky, and the pilot(s) did their best to glide, dump fuel, and impact at a small rate of descent. If they'd crashed any harder, descended any faster, or had more fuel aboard, we'd be reading a very different headline.

RIP to the two who died, and Godspeed to the injured.

Most plane engines have have fire extinguishers built into them and and there are many protocols for putting out an engine fire including hitting a button in the cockpit to release the extinguisher

I'm not sure if he is lying, but was on a flight that ran into air turbulence once. Scary.

Scary? You are lucky yours stopped at scary. In my case I got phobia after a sudden encounter with turbulence. The pilot got taken unawares and the whole scenario is better forgotten.

It was so bad that on my return flight I shut my eyes for more than half of it. A gal sitting next to me thought it was my first time flying, she had no idea what I went through on my earlier flight that day. It takes one flight for a frequent flier to become traumatized.

Flying seems glamorous to onlookers but the only exciting part of it is landing safely. Every other bit of it is just a gamble. I do know it has less incidences compared to travelling by road, but knowing that you cant park on a cloud to fix an engine, is where the issue lies.

And back to your shallow talk about stones or locusts or bird not being found at cruise heights know that planes have run into flock of geese at 29 thousand feet in the past ( I bet you didn't know geese could fly that high) , planes have run into swarms of locusts at 10 thousand feet and is infact pilots have to be cautioned about area with locusts movt ... And for stones like debris I hope you know volcanos are known to shoot up ash with stone like particles that have been know to shut down plane engines at cruise heights.... There is something I have noticed with a lot of Nigerians and it's very shallow education ..
