Whom would you prefer to be arrested by?
Radio was playing this live programme.

The OAPs (“On-Air” Personalities), or some popular comedians, asked listeners to phone in and confess which of the road authorities they would prefer to be stopped by when violating the traffic law. Listeners could choose from one of these options: the VIO, FRSC, LASTMA, Nigeria police, the army, and etc. Noticeably, their opinions were aired live on the radio.

Which of the road authorities would you prefer to be stopped by when violating the traffic law?

At the end of the programme, it came as no surprise that the VIO was the least preferred by callers since it’s hard to come to terms with them.

So, who played the lead? It was the Nigeria Police Force. Worse still, almost 100% of the participants chose to be captured by the police when they flouted the law. The reason is it is much easier to deal with the Nigeria police officers than other authorities. Sometimes, just for N20, you become guiltless. On the other hand, this is much less possible if you meet LASTMA, VIO and “Road Safety” officials. In the main, it was somewhat a humorous, interesting, but sincere interaction.

Nevertheless, what is of great concern to us is how these Nigerians could openly admit a support for corruption. Even worse, callers didn't bother to hide their reals names and addresses. This is distressing not because the callers would be taken into custody for airing their opinions, but it demonstrates that our moral values have gradually been deteriorated.

In truth, the OAPs already asked of one of caller whether this was not encouraging corrupt practice. However, it’s believed that Nigerians might invent more defenses for criminal tendencies. If this is true, have Nigerians been unconscious of being so crime-prone and corrupt?

Lastly, hope that you would never be arrested by any of the traffic authorities when on the move. Good luck!

If you are being chased by VIO or LASTMAN, it's better and wiser to surrender to the nearest police checkpoint, patrol or station nd ask them to arrest you.
If police are evil, LASTMAN and VIO are monsters.

Naija police--If they are not drunk and you are not too arrogant, you can even go with a warning or chicken feed.

The semi-illiterate, envious vio guys will always think you are arrogant because you drive a 'big' car.

Soldier ke? E don't be for you. Maybe because most of them are northerners or they pretend to be, you can't even have a decent conversation with them. Don't have anything to do with them on the road.

Lastma? We don't know them here, but I have a feeling they are an equivalent of our silly yes-o guys here. They hear go, not come. They take heavy bribe if you mistakingly park at a (usually unmarked) no parking zone.

FRSC...surprisingly, you can actually have intelligent conversation with them and get away with your traffic offence, especially if you approach them calmly and massage their ego by calling them sir, ma with a big smile. Works.

Police seems to be motorist friend in this regard, with 1,000 or less you can easily get away with any traffic offence unlike other agencies.
