You should understand that the goalkeeper role has evolved, De Gea is arguably the best shot stopper in the premier league but Man City would never consider signing him why? He doesn't fit their style of play. They need someone that is as good on his feet as with his hands to enable them play out from the back. It's the same situation with Liverpool and Allison albeit a little different in the sense that Liverpool is a counter attacking team and Allison's role will majorly be to get the ball to the wingers as fast as possible and Allison has high distribution and success rate.

He's right. Wenger was a wiz when it came to signings, too bad it all fizzled along the line. Someone that will spend only a small fraction of what other teams are spending and still get similar results deserves some accolades. Perhaps you were not following football around 2003/2004 when Arsenal had it's 49-match unbeaten run. Man City with it's very expensive squad couldn't match that feat. Which team can boast of back to back champions league qualification for 20 whopping years even with their expensive squad? If all coaches were as prudent and tactical as Wenger, there wouldn't be over-the-top signings of slightly above average players like we're seeing now.
