Aaa game is not mainly money matter, money can't always buy standard, some games were spent on but ended up been bs, it's about talent and willingness to use the talent.(. Story writing, physics and graphics) for game production. 1 Like |

crafteck: Yea, if Nigeria can sponsor some serious-minded Nigerians to go study all the aspects of game development then come back and teach people here. They'll be exceptionally good. See what Nigerians do just with YouTube free tutorials and other free online materials. If they get trained they'd be way better. Imagine if the work force of naughty dog for example, are Nigerians working on a game. They'd be no need to pay anyone to do anything. Just to buy materials. Most expenses of a game are mostly to pay workers and actors. |

We need a robust gaming industry in Nigeria, no question about it. The naysayers know very little about gaming as a hobby, passion, business or otherwise. And as for the "what we need now is" crew: we can do more than one thing at once. Even, wow, make a video game that tackles current societal problems? Imagine a mod for Cities: Skylines or SimCity that showed Nigeria or a City Simulation/Management game built from the ground up that tackles are unique societal, political and socio-economic issues head on. Games are just for play or entertainment, they have educational value. The only issue I see now is "when." I don't think it's an "if" we will have a AAA gaming industry in Nigeria but "when." I would hope we made it happen sooner rather than later. The points about laziness and selfishness are spot on by the way. We might be incredibly hard workers in some aspects of our lives but we might also be incredibly lazy when it comes to seeking and implementing alternative ways of thinking, to talk less of taking action. To me, that is the crux of our laziness: we're too lazy to think of something new and when we do, we're too afraid of making the necessary moves. 2 Likes 1 Share |

grossintel: Scroll through my precious posts on this thread and stop displaying your lack of comprehension. Just because a 12yr old boy made $2 million doesn't make video games a productive part of society. For every dollar he made, millions more people have lost even more. Your logic and analogy is completely out of whack. 1 Like |

rentAcock:Yeah, just as thousands of Nigerians loose more from every million Seun makes. And Zuckerberg's Billions are ill gotten, because Facebook is doing more damage than good to the society. Are you listening to yourself? Don't game companies pay millions of dollars in taxes to the government? What about employment? They need alot of talented developers and artists to design these games, Rockstar games have more than 1000 staff excluding contractors, how many has your government employed? Game companies also work with the military to program simulatiors for training do you know that? Yes and also airplane simulatiors. So next time you use a flight, note that somehow, a game developer assisted in the training of that pilot. You have no idea what you're talking about, do your job and stick to it. Don't hate on game developers because you think people who play games are wasting their time. There are people who love it! Don't try to kill the idea because obviously you can't! I'm not interested in movies as much, that doesn't mean Hollywood is usless so I go preaching to people how stupid it is to watch movies. 1 Like |

grossintel: There's reading and then there's comprehension. It seems most self proclaimed "gamers" on nairaland seriously lack comprehension skills. Now go back a few pages and read OP's post and now read my previous posts. I've said it before on this thread and I will gladly say it again no matter how many times someone pretends to act as if they don't understand this very distinction: Video games are nothing but a form of entertainment just like gambling, and when analysed as a sum of its parts, it is an unproductive venture for society and the OP is wrong for suggesting the Nigerian government should Invest millions of dollars in creating a AAA video game title. Your analogies are fraught, just because the gambling and porn industries hire thousands of people as porn stars, clerks, janitors, producers, bartenders, engineers etc etc, does it make it a productive part of society a government should Invest into?? Stay focused young tiger, I will be here to direct you through the right path though. |

It's actually funny how a country that doesn't have an existing video game industry is talking about AAA titles. We have isolated start ups and developers making mobile and PC games and those games can't sincerely be rated a "D" (if there is any rating like that and if they are worth even rating at all). The issue with this thread starts right from the topic. Not even worth discussing. |

steevy: Let me humor you in hopes that you'd be reasonable. The topic of this post isn't time bound. Maybe you guys should read the post with an open mind and not to want to criticize. I am aware of mobile gaming companies in Nigeria... Trying. The post starts from there. The post tried to address reasons they'd never outgrow the bottom of the game chain. Nigerians are very talented and when there are no enough support and encouragement, one wares off. Get? |
