OAM4J: I think that is the main here. Not sure why the back and forth with Yar adua or no yar adua. The fact is the current president could have easily changed it but he didn't, even though he did change a couple other things. |

Based on some people's claim that the approved final figure is yet to be released ,let us wait and see how this N10 Billion saga will play its self out. So fingers crossed and all eyes on them at the Presidency. |

@poster Upon all the development in Nigeria the only thing you can do is to criticize the president? Why didn't you see Obasanjo and others? |

10 billion Naira is by no means small money. I guess Nigerians need to stop this spending. We need to do so right away, from Nairaland we can take the lead. Apart from the fact that there is nothing to show for our fifty years in the way of development, there is really no need to celebrate, talk less of expending 10 billion naira for such purpose when this money can solve so many lingering problems. PLS LETS ACT NOW. We have a role to play! |

My contribution is to leave Jonathan alone, there wont be anyother 50th anniversary and if the young man has decidedto spend 10b then it may just be a way of boosting our tourism potential, also note that he plans a big fiesta. Yaradua, I will never forget, a man who returned home to have lunch after all the celebrations of victory at the 2007 elections was over and to his astonishment saw different types of food as if there was a big party going on, he had to ask that was he expecting guests!, they told him no, that he was to make his choice, the man went staright ahead and complained and told them never to waste food like that again but should get in touch with his wife to tell them what exactly he would eat. They brought a budget of 51b not 32b to Yaradua to host the U17 Wcup he asked politely that can they reduce the budget the officials laughed and said it was impossible, that was when he lost his temper and told them that he would rather not host the tournament than spend 51b on sports when a large percentage of his people are hungary. They paid his salaries and he compared it to what civil servant were earning and he said it was unjustifiable, he recommende for a paycut for himself and his aides, then set up a commitee to come up with a solution to the poor wages, that they should come up witha template that can be used to derive workers pay viz a viz the position of the economy so that workers would not have to protest before getting salary increase. Oh! Yaradua you left too soon now someone here tries to blame him for the Abuja runway, it was only in a budget proposal it had not even been approved by the NASS, then you would have seen a Yaradua not executing it, these are the reasons why you always have unspent funds returned because once you come up with unrealistic figures the man turns you back so Aviation could have say 50b for construction of an airpory, Yaradua says follow due process when they follow it say only 20b is expended with some pple still stealin the 30b saved would not be spent but eturned as unspent funds that was y Yaraduas administration was always having large amounts as unspent funds, because if you cant justify your spending and cannot go thru all due process no body will approve money for you. Yaradua rest in peace, Nigerians pray that those who have your interests last long in office to make a change. |

Out of the N10 billion I strongly suggest that dey give each Nigerian like N2million esp we wey no too get like d politician, b4 dey embezzle and mis-appropriate d rest, instead of all this noise about money wey d masses no go see or feel d impact.(just thinking aloud) |

Your President Goodluck Jonathan does not want to take chances, because he is not sure of winning the next presidential election. Therefore, his wife who loves exporting millions of dollars overseas for shopping in Dubai wants them to start with ordinary N10 Billion for the 50th Independence Anniversary of Nigeria. |

marvix:you never appreciate something until you lose it. The man was awsomely simple. Do you know that he had never been to the USA until he became the president? His family is reputed to have produced humble men who remain humble in spite of the huge money @ their disposal. May Allah forgive him his sins and provide for Nigeria another humble president. Amin. |

misterh: ROFLMAO!!! Now measure of humility is whether one has been to the US or not? Nigeria oooo!!!! The man did not have to go to he US at all. He already got his medical care taken care of in countries like Germany, Saudi Arabia, etc at the expense of the Nigerian tax payer and resources. Katsina HealthCare center was definitely not good enough for him and he made sure that He did not develop it to the even 1/100th of the standard of the hospitals he visited abroad even during his time as governor of the state. He made sure to repeat the same when he was made President. Only this time he made sure to UPGRADE his healthcare costs to some of the most expensive in the world, again, at the expense of the NIgerian taxpayer. How humble could that have been? |

i don't really understand how some people reason,in as much as nobody will be happy hearing the amount budgeted for the celebration,it must not degenerate into tribalism.well i think a particular part of this country has refused to come to terms with the reality on ground, that power has changed hands.wake up nairalanders let's engage in constructive critscms and arguments.this government needs all the support it can get,but with this kind of tribalistic views here i wonder how we can move this country forward.ethnic bigots be warned!!!!!! |
