Slippery slope, maybe... but, you have to admit that if the legalization of abortion could face such a stern opposition despite the logical thinking and enlightenment of man, it is because many of us never believed such a thing could become so trivial it would be passed into law. Yea, that's what immorality does... it slowly unfolds, revealing layers of atrocities, never thought of.
It is true that premarital sex is not a new thing but as you also noted, it was an act that was discreet and most probably frowned upon. True, morality is subjective and quiet distinct from religion. But we can't go ahead and use that as a justification for any of our acts, whether they look harmless or not.
