Former WWE superstar Brian Christopher Lawler popularly known as 'Grandmaster Seway' has died aged 46.

He was the son of Wrestling legend, Jerry known as "The King" who now works for as the WWE Hall of Fame commentator.

Brian reportedly attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself in his jail cell outside Memphis.

His mother Kay told TMZ that Lawler passed away surrounded by family and friends after being placed on life support, which was eventually turned off on Sunday evening.

Lawler was saving time in prison after being arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and evading arrest.

A WWE statement added: "WWE is saddened to learn that Brian Christopher Lawler, who is best known in WWE as Too Cool’s Grandmaster Sexay, has passed away.

"Lawler, who is the son of WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler, competed during the height of the Attitude Era.

"WWE extends its condolences to Lawler’s family, friends and fans."

The 46-year-old was hospitalised earlier this year following a fight with former TNA star Chase Stevens in a hotel room in Indiana.

There were hopes that Lawler's arrest would be a turning point for him, with the WWE reportedly willing to offer help upon his release.
