A Pan-Yoruba advocacy group, the Network of Yoruba Alliance, NEYA, has called on the All Progressives Congress, APC led Federal Government to stop the seemingly ongoing political witch-hunting among its ranks but rather devote quality time to solving the myriad of problems confronting Nigerians.

The group, in a statement issued in Lagos weekend, NEYA condemned the actions leading to the ongoing gale of defections in APC, warning that such development would have grave consequences on the citizenry if allowed to fester.

The group is of the opinion that a people oriented Federal Government should work together in harmony, no matter individual interests, for the common good of the generality of Nigerians.

NEYA therefore warned that the APC, which presented itself as a political party coming to liberate the masses from the track of perdition may sink into more fatal derailment if conscious steps are not taken to accommodate the rising number of defections to other parties by key figures in the party hierarchy.

Spokesperson of NEYA, Sunday Akogun condemns in strong terms the ongoing attacks on the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki and other notable lawmakers in both the upper and lower chambers of the national assembly and the wanton use of the national security institutions to carry out individualistic assignments at the expense of national interests.

He said: “Nigerian political topography is being deliberately abused consistently by gruesome daylight robbery on the tenets of democracy by the ruling political party, the All Progressive Congress, APC. In an attempt to cover up under-performance of this administration, the APC has resulted to intimidating, harassing and coercing members of the party that dare challenge the party. This is tantamount to undermining the kernel of democracy (internal democracy) without which democratic sustainability can flourish”.

NEYA, in the statement asserts that allegations and persecutions against the Senate President are seemingly political gimmicks orchestrated not only to frustrate, but to destroy him politically by the APC leadership and benefactors.

“He who must come to equity must come with clean hands. For instance, since the police claims that links Senator Bukola Saraki to the robbery in Offa, Kwara State was debunked by the robbers then, the police must be courageous enough to prosecute the robbers.

“The police must stop this show of shame and stop been used as an extension of the APC political party.”

NEYA is a network of over 25 indigenous organizations which cut across the South-Western region of Nigeria.

The group further expressed shock with the manner the Yoruba leaders, home and abroad, have decided to watch with folded arms and sealed lips the persecution of distinguished Senator Bukola Saraki in the hands of his political rivals.

“Despite the killings, maiming and kidnappings in the North and Middle Belt no significant arrest and prosecution has been made by a Federal Government, which has picked priority in victimizing its ranks within same party,” the group stressed.

The group in their requests, charges President Muhammadu Buhari to show the political will to salvage the Nigerian economic problems and enshrine the tenets of internal democracy as, as according to it, “this is the only bases for political sustainability.”

I will never support Buhari who was the PTF chairman during the time of abacha, the man that the 1979 senate traced $2.8billion to his UK account, the self acclaimed righteous man whose unemployed son bought a bike worth 60m, the one who has been padding budget, the one who needs 262billions naira for election

So funny how internet robots jumps on any post to throw their passionate support for rogues who have turned their lives so miserable amidst great resources.

As youths in this country, have you bothered to ask yourselves why instead of moving forward, this great country has continued to be on the reverse?

This Buhari era is one of the worst we Nigerians have ever faced, yet, it is almost dufficult for you to see people come out bodly to express their dissatisfaction for fear of intimidation and oppression.

Saraki's stand against the dictates of the presidency has made him a target for victimization. At this point, we all know therefore is a power play and the critics must be silenced at all cost, that explains the reason is he been pursued.

Those throwing their weights of support for President Buhari should come out and explain where he has succeeded in any of his following promises;

1. Fight against Boko Haram
2. Security of lives and properties
3. Economic Stability
4. Inflation
5. Projects successfully started and executed
6. Strengthening of the Nation's currency against the Dollar
7. Electricity
8. Don't let me mention sports (but I already did)
etc

The Nigeria of our dreams can never be what we are experiencing presently where constant abuse of democratic norms is on parade, such as barricading the entrance of the National Assembly as witnessed few days back, the place that holds the hopes of common Nigerians; it is a big slap on our faces. And to add Sault to the injury, the executive arm of government claimed or even seemed not be aware of such a barbarrick insident. grin grin grin

Definitely this is not a glorifying democracy. Nobody is in charge of affairs!!! Clue to such a disgraceful display should have been gotten in its build up and prevented. This is a hard earned democracy and our leaders should cherish the fact that they are the custodian now else they will not like the reaction of Nigerians.

I stand on the side of democracy but definitely not this arm-twisting style.

Agreed! infact i'm more taken aback by the DSS invasion of the National assembly. truth be told, the presidency goofed big time on that. I.believe the invasion was instigated to intimidate, harass and opress the hunted - Bukola Saraki.

Events are unfolding, and Nigerians are watching with keen interests.

God Save Nigerians.
