While your observation may be intelligent, i dont believe that's the case because i was told to move all my contacts as all datas were deleted.

True talk
If they ask you to drop the sim for a swap, after successful swap demand for them to give you your sim, you want to distroy it in their presence and still return it to them immediately
With that you are rest assured that you personally break the sim
exactly

Inasmuch as I don't see anything wrong in destroying your old Sim by yourself, I just feel you're passing a very wrong information to the public and while you may be doing that with the best intent at heart, I'm afraid you're doing that from a position of ignorance. The truth is once a sim is swapped (upgraded) the old serial number changes to that of the new sim card, the new sim card retains every information of the old sim (number, data balance and credit balance). Once a swap has been done and the new sim is active, the old sim is dead, I mean completely dead. This explains why you're always advised by the staff to backup your contacts and possibly text messages, because you're going to lose them after the swap. This means you can't access the contacts saved in the old sim card. You'd get an error message "sim registration failed" or "invalid Sim" or "emergency calls only" whenever you insert the old sim, depending on your phone.
OP I appreciate your security consciousness but I feel you're raising a false alarm in this case. From your Monika, I assume you're a techie and hence you should know better.

The OP clearly doesn't know how sim swap works, I understand his fears. He's informing the public from a position of ignorance. That's my problem.

Omo forget that thing. I can guarantee you that swaps are only done at Airtel showrooms, registered Airtel dealer shops and Airtel self-care portal. So nobody is harvesting your data. Make una no fall maga O for road side fraudsters O. So noboy is harvesting your data. You can relax my bro

If you have already upgraded your Airtel sim card to 4G this information is not for you but if you’re yet to go for your sim upgrade, I just want to share a little information with you based on my own observations while upgrading my sim at Airtel office. I went for my airtel sim upgrade and I noticed that the staff always insist that everyone drops that old 3G sim with them after performing the sim swap. They give you the new 4G sim and collect the 3G sim from the customers, now this seems normal to almost all the customers in the office except me. I wondered what they were going to do with the old sims after collecting them from customers.

Most of the customers don’t even bother to backup and erase their contacts from the sim before handing it over to the staff or anyone doing the upgrade. Most of the Airtel 4G upgrade are done by the roadside vendors are call centers and the sim can fall into the wrong hands. It’s true that the old sim gets deactivated and the new one gets activated but that doesn’t mean you cannot see your contacts if you put the sim in another phone. We should all be security conscious at all time because I know that many people store their BVN and other sensitive information in their sim memory. I’m not saying the Airtel staff are careless or anything like that but the fact remains that they intend to either destroy those sims or recycle them therefore it is important that all your data is COMPLETELY BACKED-UP AND WIPED OFF from the sim card before handing it over to them. No need to place 100% trust in anyone (Staff or not) and say my details are safe with them, play your own role and protect yourself from telling stories that touch. Thanks.

When you buy swap your 3g sim to 4g , does the new sim retain the old number? And when people who have the old number call you will you be able to receive the call with the new sim?
