Ekeremor local government area is one of the eight local government areas in Bayelsa state, Nigeria and has its headquarters in the town of Ekeremor. The Local Government shares borders with Delta state and comprises of towns and villages which include Ndoro, Tietiegbene, Ogbobene, Eduwini, Aleibiri, Norhene, Oyiakiri, and Tarakiri. The population of Ekeremor Local Government is estimated at 183,085 inhabitants with the prominent tribe of Ijaw ethnic group. The Ijaw language is widely spoken in the area while Christianity is the commonly practiced religion in Ekeremor town.

Fishing is a main economic feature in Ekeremor Local Government with the area’s several rivers and tributaries being rich in sea food. The area is also known for the cultivation of a number of crops such as plantain and sugarcane. Ekeremor is also rich in crude oil and natural gas and the activities of local and international oil mining companies contribute immensely to the economic development of the town and Bayelsa state.
Ekeremor is one of the many oil rich local government council areas in Bayelsa State that cannot be accessed by good road, this has constitute a great challenge to the people of the town and it has been a threat to the economy activities of the local government in general.
Apart from the fishing activities that dominate about 80% of the key occupation of Ekeremor town, the natives are also predominantly farmers that cultivate a number of crops such as plantain and sugarcane in commercial quantity while the oil companies and the Nigerian state are making fortunes from the exploration and exploitation of crude oil in these town as well.Continue reading from
