The decimating wars during the 17th century in the Yoruba land were responsible for the strategic location of Igbeti in a natural stronghold protected by hills. The town is called Igbeti which literally means the town that had refused to be conquered by enemies. Igbeti is located in the northern part of Oyo State, Nigeria. It is just a few kilometres away from Ilorin and less than an hour drive from Ogbomoso.
The town's population was approximately 81,000 at the 2006 census. Igbeti is known as "Marble City" for its richness in marble deposits. Two of the most famous hill, which defines the town and its people because of its historical and cultural features, is Iyamopo hill and Agbele Rock, which is very fascinating with its delicate balance.
History has it that the physical representation is said to be that of a woman with a basket on her head and a child strapped to her back.
This enchanting rocky formation is said to be treasured by the people and has become a recognisable symbol of not just Igbeti and the Olorunsogo Local Area of which Igebti is the headquarters
Igbeti is home to all ethnic groups comprises of Hausa, Ibo and Yoruba who has the largest population in the town.Continue reading from
