I heard 10% of ebonyi are now muslims.when kwankwaso visited the east, several easterners adorn his red cap Which red cap? Ibo traditionally does not wear red cap, they wear a multi-colored drooping-ear hat. The red cap itself is a symbol of honor and originated the Niger Benue basin amongst the Nok culture. Igala introduced it to the forest people and the warrant chiefs in Iboland were the only ones permitted during colonial time to wear the red cap, to signify their honor status. Now it is common to see red cap on every Iboman head. The red cap has no symbolism to Islam. The Maghrebi Islam, the Andalusia Islam wore the red fez. It was historically the preserve of Khadis of Morrocco. After it gained popularity it is common to find the red cap woven with white turban on the head of Ustazs and Grand Khadis of the Sahel, the Savannah belt of West Africa. Other than that, it has no special place in Islam. |
