I Observed!
Announcing the passing away of patience!

Times and seasons are constantly changing, ever bearing their uniqueness in varying behavioural, attitudinal and societal patterns. With these inevitabilities, the times we live in have made mockery of extolling virtues that make for our sanity as humans. It comes at a terrible cost, constantly robbing humanity of life's most noble virtues unabated. One of such extolling virtues is patience.

The absence of this virtue comes at disturbing detriments on the road. Drivers cannot afford to 'waste' the next spilt seconds or minutes. They will rather make victim of any obstacle, human or non-human, that stand in her way. The paucity of patience also cuts across disciplines. In culinary, it is the reason for fast food, gifting men fast death! In the financial sector, it comes in form of instant or quick cash we are now familiar with. As a result, we have come to have preference for mobile banking (cf: http://olabanjititles..com/2018/08/mid-week-musing.html?m=0). Even the pace of football matches has to be fast to be said to be interesting. Because it is lacking, the most educated of men would not obey speed limits. Even in circumstances when there are no speed limits, but reasoning demands one, the behaviour is summed up thus: to hell with it! In cosmopolitan and metropolitan cities, with bursting populations, people are ever in a hurry that the one that is relatively slow is derogatorily said to be ode or su e gbe. First time visitors to Lagos (Nigeria's commercial hub in South West Nigeria), for instance, would probably have had such stigmatizing invectives used on them.

Today's generation of men lack the patience, the endurance, the discipline, the consistency, the sincerity, the tenacity, that have built and sustained business empires, notable institutions, and by extension, noble societies. It is this noble virtue that made greatness of men of old. Those who would have nothing to do with this virtue wants to turn millionaire overnight. They like life's niceties and luxuries, but wouldn't mind taking a contrary path. It is such contrariness that has popularised what is known in local parlance as Yahoo Yahoo, and by extension money rituals. Such is the pain of the generation that demands results cum success without due process. In fact, for the Christian folks, it has largely influenced the pattern and tenacity of prayers. It is also the reason many have fallen victims of belly-led prophets.

The demise of patience has created a huge void. Painfully, a void that cannot be filled. Adieu patience! Your demise is mourned.

NOTE: Parents should warn their wards to desist from crossing the road at traffic light point. One crazy driver might just be too impatient to obey the traffic code.
