"OPC founder, Faseun, took two-page advert in The Guardian in November 2011 to draw attention to it; nothing was done to correct it".* *Many have forgotten it was like that in the First Republic. Akintola kept drawing our attention to it, but his outcry was overshadowed, indeed drowned, by the crisis in the Action Group. He always spoke of Ikejiani, Iketa-ani!!!* *An aspect of efforts to correct it with Richard Akinjide as Education Minister led to crisis at Unilag instigated by Dr. Ben Nwabueze, now Professor. Akinjide sought to replace Prof. Eni Njoku with Prof. Saburi Biobaku. You may wish to remember that he was stabbed by an Adams, a Yoruba student in our accustomed detribalization and liberalism. Until Akinjide became minister of education under Balewa, the Yorubas hardly got federal scholarships. If at all it was tokenism.* *Among the first set of Yorubas to benefit from Akinjide's attempted redress in 1965 was Professor Akinyemi to pursue his higher degrees at Cambridge. At the time just go to Yaba Tech, or NBC, especially Voice of Nigeria headed by Chinua Achebe, yes the same Achebe.* *Go to all the Federal Govt parastatals of that era. What of federal civil service, particularly the upper echelon. It was then speculated at the time that the reason Zik did not cooperate with Awolowo in 1959 to form Govt was so that he could put his people in different vital positions in pursuit of his dream that it was a matter of time when the Igbos would dominate and rule the whole of Africa. At the time Njoku was at Unilag, Kenneth Dike was the Vice Chancellor at the University of Ibadan, appointed over the head of his superiors, "Oladele Ajose" who was in fact the only black already on the Academic Board of UI; Dr. Sanya Onabamiro; and Dr. Victor Oyenuga. Dike and Hezy Oluwasanmi were on the same level, the fourth ring. Dr. Francis Ibiam was chairman of Council. So, he went to London University to lobby for Kenneth Dike, his kinsman. Incidentally, Dike was in Canada at the time on sabbatical.* *The Yoruba academics then led a protest delegation to Chief Awolowo at Oke Ado. He calmed them down and said the answer was in the West setting up its own university. He asked them to give him a paper. That was what led to the founding of the University of Ife!!!.* *While Dike held sway, the halls, catering, drycleaning services were all dominated by Igbos.* Enabulele George Osaze Let me add to this, President Goodluck Jonathan removed General Dambazzau as the COAS and replaced him with General Ihejirika, he removed Afrikiya Gadzama as DSS boss and replaced him with Ita Ekpenyong, The economy team of this govt is dominated by Southerners but nobody is talking about it because it does not suit their narrative. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Nigeria has always been about who gets what when in office. Only OBJ came close to putting a nationalistic outlook on his administration. Every tribe that got to the leadership of the country has always tried to benefit themselves. No be today yansh dey back. When Buhari leaves, whoever gets there should rearrange to suit himself Abeg. The noise is getting stale 2 Likes |

truthfulparrot: What is wrong with the present appointment; do you honestly believe that ethno-regional balance considerations should override those of expediency and exigency on a serious matter such as national security - if so why then have ppl like you not also lent their voices to the ongoing ethnic/regional imbalance in the current economic team which is composed of 100% southerners? Note, the same Buhari who is being unfairly labelled as an ethnic bigot is the same person who appointed them. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Nobody is complaining about Buhari's appointment, except IPOB terrorist. They wail over anything and everything. The pain of GEJ's defeat by Buhari is still doing them like Magic. Buhari is the President and he will appoint whoever he wants, cause he has the Constitutional Powers to do so. If E pain una, when a Biafran becomes the President of Nigeria (this will never happen) He or She can focus his appointment in your Region only. 5 Likes

Why are they all from same region today Let's talk about education: Did the following came from the same region during OBJ? Why are they from same region today? Minister of education. Executive Secretary NBTE Executive Secretary NUC President Buhari is raised nepotism to the highest height so far. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

I am happy you mentioned Awo in this Thread. And you said Awo calmed them down and told them to allow The West set up her own University. You didn't mention Zik. You didn't mention A Bello. To make each of our 36 constitutional States, "A Cost and Incomes generating Centre" is a Political Civilization known only to US, UK, UN and Swiss because they have something similar. It's also a novel modus operandi in Federalism. The Military is a coercive Discipline and so, it is in their Nature not to allow any part of a whole under them to operate loosely from the Centre. Soldiers don't like Decentralization. The Militarily polished 1999 Constitution we are using is the cause of all this Mismanagement and abuse of people's Rights. When the States were 19, Chief Richard Akinjide proved their Autonomy in the Shagari/Awolowo's 2/3 of 19 votes case. Our Military didn't conquer Nigeria. They conquered Biafra and have since reintegrated Biafra into Nigerian Constitutional States and have blended them with the Federation. Now we are in a Democracy and have 36 Constitutional States. It's a case of Releasing constitutionally THE GRIP OF F.G INHIBITING THE FULL AND UNFETTERED RIGHTS OF THE STATES TO ENJOY FULL AUTONOMY RIGHT ON THAT WE ARE WAITING FOR. Then The F.G should be limited to Foreign Affairs only. GOD BLESS THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA!!! 1 Like |

ItsMeAboki: The Economic Management Team (EMT) is Chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, and has the following members: Minister of Finance Minister of Budget and National Planning Minister of State for Budget and National Planning Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Minister of Agriculture Minister of Information and Culture Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria Special Adviser to the President on Economic Matters Director-General of the Budget Office Director-General of the Debt Management Office Director-General of the National Bureau of Statistics The team meets weekly at the State House. Though you have a point that the economic team is lopsided your assertion of 100% Southerners is not correct. Nevertheless, PMB is politically naive and the politicians are taking advantage of that. His aides and advisers failed to cautioned him that federal character and merit should be respected in all his appointment. |
