Few weeks ago, it was reported that a Major General in the Nigerian army, Idris Alkali, was missing. The army officer was said to have left his house in Abuja on Monday 3/09/2018 for Bauchi where he has a farm but was nowhere to be found since as his phone lines were switched off. It was suspected that Major General Alkali who was travelling in his car was kidnapped by unknown hoodlums. According to journalist Bello Lukman who works with Unity Fm 93.3 Jos, Major General Idris Alkali who retired from service - weeks before going missing, was reportedly kidnapped. The major general was found dead in a pool of his blood along the University of Jos teaching hospital's permanent site yesterday. According to reports, the deceased's car was found alongside various other automobiles, ranging from motorcycles to tricycles otherwise known as Keke Napep. It is reported that General Alkali who is known for his simplicity – does not normally involve Army personnel or materials in relation to his personal businesses and it is believed to have travelled alone before his abduction and murder. You know a country is already in a mess and pity state if a whole General of her army can be caught like rabbit, kidnapped like a stray chicken and butchered like a sallah ram. Nigeria army is the world weakest and demoralized force ever. The only reason people still join such a cowardice force is because of the high rate of unemployment. Give them guns and give me stick, I would finish them off without sweating... One source told me that the Nigerian army is currently paying monthly ransom to Boko haram, fulani herdsmen and highly placed cultists so that they wouldn't be kidnapping it weak officers anyhow!!! Everybody keep shouting, agriculture is the way out for Nigeria. This is just one of the numerous problems with farming in Nigeria. Falae was kidnapped sometimes ago by herdsmen and many more which we don't get to hear because they are not high profile individuals. This is a sad one. We can’t be losing our highly trained Generals just like that. It is a symptom of a more fundamental malaise in our security architecture. I leave the Government—who are charged with the responsibility of formulating policies for securing the nation— to deal with this issue. We cannot continue to bury our heads in the sand like the proverbial ostrich, while denying that nothing is wrong with Nigeria.
