For the mods, this is not Biafran agitation thread that wants to break Nigeria. This a thread to find a solution to the lack of development of this nation .

Looking at what Nigeria has become today, we can see that the majority of those who ruled Nigeria since independence are from the North. So we can blame the current state of Nigeria to bad leadership, which means the North takes the major blame. Northern Nigeria has remained a huge burden to the progress and development of this nation. One begins to wonder what the north brings to the table .
We will look at the major areas the north has contributed to the general negative perception the rest of the world has about Nigeria.

EDUCATION

Most Northerners are not well educated, and for the few that have interest in education, the standard of education and admission of the nation will have to be lowered in their interest. Because of the North, the cutoff mark for university admission was so lowered that people will hardly read to enter the university . Professors in universities in the southern Nigeria even had to protest the cutoff mark, because this will further reduce the value of education in the south.

TERRORISM

We used to watch and read about suicide bombing and religious extremism on CNN about Iraq and other Arab countries. Northern Nigeria has successfully introduced this to Nigeria. This terrorism does not only destroy human resources, but depletes the finances of this nation. The irony of this is that, this terrorism started in the North, those abducted are from the North, Those arrested are from the North, yet no single sponsor. Even when most security agencies are headed by Northerners. But we have lost count of number of soldiers from the south that have been killed by this monster created by Northern Nigeria. The amount of money this war has cost Nigeria would have gone a long way in infrastructural development. Though this terrorism is making the nation bleed, some in the North are benefiting heavily from it .Even those within the presidency who are accused of making money from the IDP's.

POVERTY

Nigeria has become the world poverty capital, and we all know which region can boast of the highest number of extremely poor people in Nigeria. If you are guessing the North, then your guess is as correct.This is not a good picture for this nation . While someone from the south is cracking his head about school fees for his four or 5 children. A young man in the north is about taking his third wife after having 10 children from 2 women, who he does not know their whereabouts. This makes the north to be Nigeria's poverty production capital.

FOR THIS REASON I PROPOSE A SOUTHERN NIGERIA GOVERNMENT .

I know the Number one fear of every northerner reading this is oil. That the oil resource will be taken from them. If the North is so poor with oil allocation, then what happens without oil. No need to worry, the north will still get allocation from oil . But this is how the government will work .
1) there will be a Northern and Southern President . Elections will be held for southern Nigeria, while there is also election for Northern Nigeria presidency .

2) Oil Revenue and other federal revenue from ports etc, will be shared equally by the North and south. There will be workers who work for the Northern Federal government and Southern federal Government.

3) Presidency will be zonned in the south. The president will have to win election in all southern states to emerge, same with the Northern president .

4)There will be central governing body or committee made up by the North and Southern, whose reponsibility is to ensure someone from the North is treated equally as someone from the South as long as he behaves in a manner accepted by the constitution . If anyone feels their rights have been violated in either the southern or Northern Nigeria, their case is presented at the central federal level .

5) Taxes from Businesses in Southern Nigeria are paid to Southern government, while the same in Northern Nigeria are paid to Northern Government .Import duties are paid to final destination. If a car is imported to be used in the south, the duty is paid to southern government, if it is for the North, it is paid to northern government. But the car will be moved by sea or train to the north for clearing .

6)States can be merged within the South or within North .

7) The south as well as the North will have a Southern/Northern Governing council . There responsibility is to ensure that states do not make laws that threaten the existence of people from other states in the south. That the rights of all southerners irrespective of state and tribe within the south is protected. That the same law applies to all southerners within the south. The same will be done in Northern Nigeria.

ADVANTAGES OF THIS GOVERNMENT

1) QUALITY LEADERSHIP

Though the mass production of children who are neglected for in the North , increases poverty and terrorism in the North. The politicians don’t mind as long as the number keeps increasing. This is because they intend to use these numbers to win elections. Now imagine the destiny of educated southerners in the hand of uneducated almajiri children in the North . Where these uneducated children and adults in the North make the final decision as who will rule southerners, because they have the numbers .What the northern youth expects from a leader is totally different from what a southerner expects. We have seen INEC registering a lot of underage voters in the north and is a very dangerous situation the southerners find themselves . In the south it will be a competition of technocrats, at the end of the day, someone who is capable will emerge because of their expertise and experience and not religion or so called integrity .

2) IMPROVED INFRASTRUCTURE

The huge resources channeled to the North in the Name of fighting terrorism would have gone a long way with infrastructure in the south, if have of it was given to the south . While the North can decide to use their share to create terrorists, and pay them ransom, the south can use theirs for infrastructure.

3) ELIMINATION OF TERRORISM

The reason terrorism is thriving in the North is because of oil wealth . The boko haram menace would not have escalated if the allocation of the state was affected. If the governor had to handle it with state IGR, he would have nailed it from the onset . But because the resources is part of the oil funds shared at the federal level, some will encourage it to make more money from it . The moment the money is shared between the southern Nigeria and Northern Nigeria, they issue of terrorism will end. The Northern government will warn state governors and even the Northerners will rise to end it. Because they know that their resources is what is affected and not that of the South .

4) INCREASED EMPLOYMENT

Apart from oil proceeds and the sea, all other resources in the south will be managed by the southern government. All other resources will be developed and more employment created .The share of the south that would have been spent on fighting terrorism in the North, will be put to use in areas that create employment . The North can also invest heavily in agriculture and mining and create more jobs. The north will trader what they are good at with the South and same goes to the south .

5) IMPROVED STANDARD OF EDUCATION

While the north is free to set the admission cutoff mark to 50, the south can make theirs 300. But the requirement for employment in the south will also be higher. Unlike what we have here where the admission requirement for a Northerner is lowered, yet he has a higher opportunity of employment in government than a southerner .


This I think is a better method of restructuring as it does not affect the oil allocation to the North. The southerners can easily agree on what is a crime and unanimously agree to the sentence it attracts .

When calculated along geographical location, it can be seen that South ruled for almost 24yrs while North rule for almost 36yrs.
Yoruba ruled for approximately 12years, Fulani ruled for less than 11yrs, Angas ruled for 9yrs, Igbos ruled for 6yrs, Ijaw had 6yrs, Kanuri had 5yrs, Nupe had 8yrs, Tuarek had 2yrs while Hausa had 1year only.
North-Western presided Nigeria for about 17yrs, South-West presided for about 12yrs, North-Central enjoyed approximately 18yrs, South-South presided for 6yrs, South-East had 6yrs while North-East are still struggling to get to the apex position and still not agitating for it.
Going by the logical distribution of power along ethnic and religious line it can be seen that accusing only one particular tribe for Nigeria's failure is just a deliberate tactics by desperate power mongers and children of hate to put us into ethno-religious conflicts.
Since 1999 to present, two southern presidents used almost 14 years out of the 21 years and yet southerners still complain of Fulani dominance everywhere like babies throwing tantrums.
