ANN Presidential Aspirant, Gbenga Olawepo Hashim just released a powerful picture message of history on his social medial handles tagged ''Good things that happened before in our land''. The frontline Presidential aspirant promised to bring Nigeria back together again.

Going through the images posted by Hashim, the messages on each image contain historical references of acts of unity done by every section of the country in affirming their faith in a united Nigeria. From a Fulani man elected in Benue, to an Igbira man elected in Enugu, an Igbo man elected in Lagos and Yoruba man elected in Kano. Hashim is determined to bring Nigeria back together to achieve the dream of our founding fathers.

The ANN presidential aspirant who recently outlined his plans to create a $4trillion economy for Nigeria is a strong advocate of a united Nigeria and he maintained in a recent publication that every part of Nigeria has demonstrated sufficient will to have a united country.

GOOD THINGS THAT HAPPENED BEFORE IN OUR LAND
BY GBENGA OLAWEPO HASHIM

In 1950, Olorunimbe was the first Mayor of Lagos, while Mazi Mbonu Ojike was his deputy, just as Chief Ekwuiyasi from Ogwashi Ukwu represented Benin West in the Western House of Assembly in 1952, and a Fulani man, Mallam Umaru Altine became the first mayor in Enugu in 1956, in an election he twice ran for. Other than this, in 1957 Felix Okonkwo, was a special member of the Northern House of Chiefs in Kano, while Mallam Umaru Yushua, the Sarkin Hausawa or Chief of the Hausas in Onitsha, was elected a member of the Eastern House of Chiefs in 1957. Additionally, Aba, an Igbo society, voted Margret Ekpo, a non-Igbo, in 1961, just as Abakaliki voted Chief Eyo Bassey to represent them in parliament. There are more. Alh. Ibrahim Abubakar Imam from Maiduguri represented Tiv land Gboko in the House of Representatives, and Chief John Umolu from Etsako represented Port Harcourt in the Eastern Region House of Assembly. In the South West, as well, Obafemi Awolowo led the campaign for Ernest Ikoli, an Ijaw man to defeat Chief Akinsanya in a Lagos election. Nnamdi Azikiwe also led the NCNC to a clean sweep of legislative seats in Lagos, and an attorney in Calabar, Atta Mumu, from Ghana represented Calabar in the parliament. This fact has been well documented by well-meaning Nigerians, and it is my intention to return us to this glorious era of detribalization.

Let's stop capitalizing on the past for Christ sake! A country who depends on past glories won't go anywhere.

This tribalism is the reason we are still where we are.

The white man has given us a unifying language in
a country with close to 700 ethnic groups. We are not in the tower of babel situation, I wonder why we can't appoint people in positions based on merit, we appoint and vote based on religion and ethnic sentiment. We vote incapable people because they are from our place even tho there are better candidates than him.

I look forward to a time when a non indigene of a state can contest elections in that state based on the number of years he has lived there, I look forward to such a person winning the election because of their capabilities.

We should wake up and work for the Nigeria of our dreams.

Somebody should stop this nonsense. Cooperation is for sophisticated humans with education and humanity. It is hard for uneducated people to live in peace when there is no proper boundary.

In today's politics

-Yoruba can give Hausa and Igbo chances being most accommodative tribe in Nigeria

-Igbo can give Yoruba chance to reciprocate the chance Yoruba gave them but will never allow Hausa man just because of Biafra war of 1967

-Hausa/Fulani will surely give Yoruba chance cos they trust themselves in fact it seems Hausa and Yoruba originated from the same place Ni,the cooperation btw them cannot be value, but can never give Igbo chance cos they can betray them, they know Igbo always like to dominate anywhere they are, they install Igwe and Obi in another man's land without consulting the owner of the land and they will claim the territory in the future. Also cos of the first coup which eventually divides Nigeria till date.

The only way to have peace in this nation is to allow Igbo to go...simple

There is a reason tribalism is still here. Tackle those issues first.
Better boundaries make better neighbors. You hardly hear of people in lekki fighting over land dispute!

I disagree with you on the basis that those were the good things that have happened in our land before. It was just that, then the literates who could represent their people were no where to be found. Due to high level of illiteracy and backwardness. So, no option if not to go with any thing that became available. Sincerely, it was never absolutely people's choice.

I am Yoruba and I did not originate from same place as Hausas. And please, don't repeat this nonsense theory of yours again, in the cyberspace or in your beer parlour chit chat. I know my origin, it is never in doubt. Do not disrespect my ancestors! angry
