OYO 2019: CONSIDERING CHIEF ADENIYI AKINTOLA SAN, A MAN OF GIANT STRIVES

Every human, anywhere in the world should have access to certain amenities - food, healthcare, shelter, clothing and education. Some call it basic human needs, others call it social welfare, but we believe they are basic rights of every individual. Just as everyone has the right to life, they deserve the right to primary healthcare, to - at the very least, take care of that life. In Nigeria, the government is responsible for these social protection programs, affirming the age old latin dictum - 'salus suprema les', the welfare of the people is the Supreme law. However, while government is doing their very best, there is still more to be done.

Access to quality, primary healthcare is pivotal to living a productive life, and this is still very much lacking in Nigeria. World Health Organization reports that one in every five child dies before the age of five, the Human Development Index puts Nigerian's life expectancy at 48 years, mortality rate in Nigeria is very high, and all these are not in any way surprising, as access to healthcare in Nigeria is still very low. Prof. Olukoye Ransome-Kuti of blessed memory ardently advocated for the establishment of primary healthcare centers in Nigeria after the Alma ata declaration in 1971, however, those healthcare centers are now deplorable to say the least.
While ruminating these myriads of challenges in our society, there are still some unique and extraordinary people who don't complain nor refuse to give helping hands, but decided to take action so as to complement Government efforts.
Some few years back, Chief Adeniyi Akintola (SAN), a philanthropist, lawyer and a political scientist donated a cottage hospital at Omi-adio, a Suburb along Ibadan - Abeokuta road which worth several millions of naira to the Nigerian Baptist Convention for effective and proper management so as to cater for the health of people in that community. The hospital has state of the art facilities like por
table water system, Doctor's lodge, Pharmaceutical store, theatre room and many others essential facilities.

While we must salute Chief Akintola for this heroic and kind act. We need to ask ourselves some questions like. How many more of Chief Akintola do we need to move this nation forward? The truth is, while individuals can attempt to make a difference in their own spheres of influence, only government can do much more to bring the change we truly desire. Because while few drops of water can one day make an ocean, why wait for eternity when we can make the ocean our selves. All we are saying in essence is that while it is good we have philanthropists all around, it is better to have them in governance. That way, they have more resources to do more good. With more men with the kind of heart Chief Akintola has, we can truly build a nation of our dreams. If he could do this as a private citizen, he could do better as a public citizen.

And with just few hours to APC Governorship primary Nationwide. One of the men we need to consider is Chief Adeniyi Akintola SAN. He deserves to fly the party ticket in Oyo State. He has stood by the party both in the good and bad times from inception till this present moment which shows that he is not a neophtye but a professional politician.

The foundation of any meaningful development in any society is peace and it has been laid by the incumbent Governor, Senator Isiaka Ajimobi. What Oyo needs now is someone who can sustain the noble legacy of the incumbent governor. Someone who is creative, competent and visionary. All these sterling attributes can be found in Chief Adeniyi Michael Akintola SAN (Bamofin of Ibadan Land).

Oyo State can be greater and move forward at a rapid speed if we support an Health literate, Economy Literate, Political literate, Social literate and Legal literate as Governor of the Pacesetters state.

Oyo...Lo siwaju

Akintola ni joo, Akintola ni jaree
