4: 28 p.m. Akwa Ibom A PREMIUM TIMES reporter is at Lutheran Primary School, Itiam Etoi, Ward 4, Uyo Urban, Akwa Ibom State, where a crowd of APC members are still patiently waiting for election materials to arrive. Party members are being served with soft drinks, apparently sponsored by one of the governorship aspirants. Most people are seated calmly on the football field in the school. Some of them could be heard saying that they are expecting money to be shared to them before end of the day. Report reaching PREMIUM TIMES is that voting is yet to commence in several parts of the state, even when election materials were dispatched hours ago. |

Oyo: Logistic problems delay process The head of the primary election committee, Demola Seriki, says the delay in beginning the exercise was due to logistic problems. Mr Seriki, was at four different time minister of state for Interior, Defence, Agriculture and Water Resources and supervising minister for Mines and Steel. |

The 11 aspirants in the Nasarawa APC primary election have unanimously agreed to adopt secret ballot. The aspirants met earlier in Taal hotel with security officials in attendance. Aspirants have raised alarm over fake delegates and all those accredited were asked to go out for fresh accreditation In Nasarawa, journalists were barred from the venue until after accreditation of delegates and all aspirants are present. |

Ebonyi: Congress Committee’s late arrival delays commencement The late arrival of the Congress Committee for Ebonyi governorship congress of the All Progressives Congress delayed the commencement of the congress. The committee headed by Domingo Obende, Premium Times learnt arrived at about 4pm. They immediately moved to the Pinnacle Hotel near the People’s Club field, venue of the election, where they started the accreditation. The committee chairman had earlier in the day blamed late arrival of materials for late commencement of the exercise. Nine persons are vying for the party’s ticket. They include Vice Chairman Senate Committee on Appropriation and Senator representing Ebonyi South Senatorial zone, Sonni Ogbuorji, former Secretary to the State Government, Bernard Odoh; and the 2015 Labour Party Governorship candidate in the state, Edward Nkwegu. Another aspirant is former chairman of the state Universal Basic Education Board, Austin Edeze, who hails from Izzi local government area of the state. Others are Emmanuel Agboti, a one term senator for Ebonyi South. He hails from Afikpo North local government area; Kelechi Chima, Ogbonnaya Obasi, Christian Chukwu and former Commissioner for Works and Environment, Paul Okorie. |

I don't personally like this direct primaries. It could work in cosmopolitan states, but there are bound to be issues in states with over 70% rural settlement: ranging from fake party members, to disorganisation to poor coordination etc. I may be old school but I prefer the old method of selecting delegates to go and decide flag bearers. The people can decide who their representative should endorse. That way, it is cleaner and less complex. 1 Like |
