Nigeria once again has been ranked among countries with the least powerful passports in Africa, a new ranking showed on Wednesday.
The ranking, by global citizenship advisory group Henley & Partners, measures the power of passports by the number of countries the holder can access either visa-free, or with a visa obtainable on arrival., showed Nigerians can travel to 47 countries without a visa.

According to the Index , Benin and Ghana with visa- free to 61 & 63 countries; Sierra Leone (62); Zimbabwe, Uganda (64) Zambia , and Tanzania (68) are African countries with a stronger passport than Nigeria.

Others are Namibia (76), Lesotho (74), Swaziland (71), Kenya (71)


Seychelles and Mauritius rank higher with 152 and 145 visa- free countries respectively, while South Africa passport is ranked 3rd most powerful African passport in 2018. Holders of their passport can travel to 102 countries without a visa.

The Henley Passport Index is a ranking of all the passports of the world according to the number of countries their holders can travel to visa-free. The ranking is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which maintains the world’s largest and most accurate database of travel information, and is enhanced by extensive in-house research.

The index is updated in real-time, as and when visa-policy changes come into effect. It is the reason why our brothers in diaspora will do ANYTHING to change this our useless passport, it has done more harm than good...Imagine recently when I arrived Finland, I faced a lot of queries and questions at the Helsinki airport because of green passport, while US/EU passport holders have it all easy....

You wouldn't know how useless; and troubling the Nigerian passport is until you travel abroad with it. The unnecessary scrutiny, and suspicion it attracts is better imagined than experienced. Carrying a Nigerian passport automatically places one in an immigration officer's crosshairs. Carrying a Nigerian passport would make a traveler humble at any POE . Na yes, 'sir'/'ma'am' you go dey vomit from mouth when immigration officer ask any questions

The passport is not the problem , the people carrying it are. Even if you carry a Japanese one, if you are prone to bad behaviour , you will still act that way . Case closed .
