Drogbotel:ok outside the real world production aspect of engineering can be seen everywhere and everyday unlike plant for example if you visit a foundry shop or a crankshaft industry you'll see things yourself I choose production because it gives you room for self development and entrepreneurship in your field for example if you really studied well like me (not boasting oo) you can easily design construct and mass produce mechanical fasteners easily with your CNC all you need is just a workshop and a CNC machine and boom you're now a production company again in foundry field which is a multi million naira field many people that knows what's up are taping into it you wonder where those metal scrap picking guys deposit their scrap metals? yes it's in foundry shops they will melt it down cast it into billets and resell to steel producing companies many opportunities in production aspects of mechanical engineering i can't write down Just a clue 4 Likes |

No mentally sound individual should be bragging about schools and courses studied in Nigeria tertiary institutions, because these are apparently not working here in Nigeria again. You can brag about the strong connections u have which seems to be the only solution in our hijacked country 1 Like |

Blyzz:ok pushing rods are mainly made of high speed steel due to the high temperature it's subjected to high speed steel contains more carbon and less ductility so when subjected to high temperature the mechanical structure won't be affected also it can be coated with chromium to avoid rust but in some cases especially in oil areas the oil takes care of rust hope i attempted your question 1 Like |

Blyzz: Sapele people with wahala.... why you dey do challenge for Engine bro... instead make we pray and work to make Nigeria better so that everyone go see his/her path, you wan challenge... na wa o... Only God know how you go do your apprentice if you get... And Engineering is not about engines alone, even the self same mechanical engineering.... 2 Likes |

ngadaAwo:Ok, you got it. Hope you're not copying from search engine. May while, list some areas of an engine parts that required bimetallic construction. That high speed steel is confusing, later I would do research on that. |

Jokerman:Lol, sorry was only trying to clarify something. It all an avenue for learning. I like challenges so much, especially in areas like this, where the brain do the thinking and solving. May while I'm not from Sapele, but we're all from same clan. The Urhobo clan. I pray for 9ja everyday, if he go better, he go surelyr better. Bravo Zulu! |

Graduated BEng from ATBU Bauchi in 2003 Mechanical/Production Eng; MSc Manufacturing Systems Eng. University of Hertfordshire 2005; C.Eng 2012 Institution of Engineering and Technology. Some of my input may be controversial but I think at least some bits will surely be helpful. 1. If your goal is to become a professional engineer (in Nigeria COREN, in the UK Chartered C.Eng, in the US P.Eng) my advice is to grab the UK spec online, link below https://www.engc.org.uk/engcdocuments/internet/website/UK-SPEC%20third%20edition%20(1).pdf Review this document and understand the requirements for each tier of professional registration. I am sure this will be beneficial even if you are applying for COREN or P.Eng. with this you will know what you need to be doing to be eligible for what you want to do. 2. If you are able to take on a post graduate course in mechanical or another discipline relevant to your aspirations then do it now, while you're still fresh from the rigours of uni life. My advice here is if you are unable to do a master's degree in a better university than where you did your B.Eng, then don't do it yet. Wait! 3. Polish your soft skills. This advice is more for those who studied in Nigeria and have lived in Nigeria all their lives but would like to gain international exposure for career development. I have met many Nigerian kids where this has presented a bigger problem then their ability. 4. Basic knowledge of using CAD, understanding Primavera, advanced excel etc is helpful but not critical. What's more important is your adaptability and ability to learn quickly on the job. Understanding interrogating a database from novice level today to super user in a matter of days or maybe a couple of weeks depending on complexity. Now that's boss! 5. Finally, not everyone who graduates in Mech Eng will become an engineer. I reckon 70% will never have a role in mechanical. Some will go into project management, research, project planning, project controls, etc etc it's not a sign of failure. It's just the way it is. You could still do excellently well outside of being a professional mechanical engineer. Good luck to all my Engineering brother's/sisters out there. 14 Likes |

Blyzz: I have been reading your comments and I laugh First this Trend is for mechanical engineers and graduates ...students can be allowed But you dont fall into any of this category What your studied is "mechanical engineering technology " It's way different from mechanical engineering... If you don't know the difference google is your friend You are like a nurse engineers are like doctors... Hope you get that Now run along 4 Likes |

Is Mechanical Engineering about engines alone? You are one of those unintelligent Polytechnic graduates that gives the opportunity for the University counterparts to be insulting you.
